In the MBC entertainment show 'How do you play?' broadcast on the afternoon of the 26th, the scene of Yoo Jae-suk, the producer, and writer Haha forming the '80s MBC Seoul Music Awards Promotion Committee' was depicted.
Yoo Jae-suk said, "There are many classic songs from the 1980s. I will also ride this trend and create a music awards show for the 1980s that offers real awards such as grand prize, gold, silver, and bronze. However, we are different from the college music festival. Our age group is different. Age and education do not matter at all," adding, "But only songs that were hits in the 1980s can participate. And the broadcast will be in 2025. (Conceptually) it is the 1980s, but we will be pre-recording, and those who are participating in the audition now will also participate in 2025. You must pass the preliminaries to be summoned back to the 1980s."
A total of 14 participants were in the preliminaries, and Yoo Jae-suk revealed his judging standards, saying, "You must not only sing well but also match the sentiment of the 1980s. If the singing ability is slightly lacking but has the feel of the 1980s, you can be cast."
One of the participants was 'The 3rd Han River Bridge.' The song performed was 'Short Hair' by Jo Yong-pil. Yoo Jae-suk expressed concern, saying, "There's a disadvantage to choosing such a classic song," and Haha added, "It will be compared to the classic songs."
However, the female participant showcased unexpected skills, and Yoo Jae-suk remarked, "It's so good. I'm getting goosebumps right now," and gave her a standing ovation, saying, "This is why I hold a music awards show. I wanted to find a voice like this," and noted, "Indeed, I've done many audition programs, and I feel the goosebumps I felt from a few individuals every time I did one."
She then sang 'To a Lady' by Byeon Jin-seop, and Yoo Jae-suk and Haha praised her, saying, "You're first place; you're first place," and "You've got the looks." Yoo Jae-suk added, "At first, I wondered, 'Will this song suit a female vocalist?' but she overturned that concern with her skill."
