Actor Song Young-gyu was revealed to have undergone police investigation for driving under the influence, while appearing unedited in the SBS new weekend drama 'The Winning Try.'
In the 1st episode of 'The Winning Try,' which aired on the 25th, Song Young-gyu met viewers as Kim Min-joong, the coach of the rugby team at Daesang High School. On this day, the news of Song Young-gyu's DUI was belatedly made public, causing a stir both online and offline, but it was not edited out of the first broadcast of 'The Winning Try.'
Song Young-gyu is accused of driving for about 5 kilometers in a drunken state on the night of the 19th of last month in the Giheung area of Yongin, Gyeonggi Province. Police were dispatched following a report from a witness, and it is said that his blood alcohol concentration was at a level that would lead to license cancellation (above 0.08%).
'The Winning Try' has completed pre-production for all episodes. Regarding the editing involving Song Young-gyu, the production team stated to OSEN, "We learned about the DUI news of actor Song Young-gyu through reports, and we also feel very perplexed and regretful," and added, "As the preparation for broadcasting, including global OTT, has already been completed, editing the episode airing this week is realistically difficult."
Because of this, Song Young-gyu's face appeared unedited in the 1st episode. However, the production team of 'The Winning Try' added, "We ask for the understanding of viewers. In future episodes, we are discussing the direction of editing Song Young-gyu's appearance scene as much as possible without affecting the main story development."
Meanwhile, 'The Winning Try' is a comedic coming-of-age sports drama about an unpredictable oddball director, Joo Ga-ram, and the perennial underdog Hanyang High School rugby team racing toward victory at the National Sports Festival. It features Yoo Yeon-seok, Kim Yo-han, and others.
