Actor Song Young-kyu is embroiled in a controversy over 'driving under the influence,' affecting his works including 'Try', 'The Defects', and 'Shakespeare in Love'.
On the 25th, a media outlet reported that Song Young-kyu drove approximately 5 km while intoxicated in Giheung District, Yongin, Gyeonggi Province on the 19th of last month.
According to the initial report, Song Young-kyu was apprehended through a police report by a witness. The police, who responded to the report, conducted a sobriety test, and it was reported that he recorded a blood alcohol concentration (0.08%) at levels that would lead to license suspension.
Born in 1970, Song Young-kyu is an actor who graduated from the Seoul Arts College acting department. After working with the Seoul Musical Company, he officially debuted in 1994 through the children's musical 'Mertel Dosa'. Since then, he has played supporting roles in numerous dramas and films. In particular, he gained recognition for his role as the head of the violent crimes unit in the movie 'Extreme Job.'
He is currently involved in multiple projects. This includes the play 'Shakespeare in Love', which opened on the 5th, the recently premiered ENA drama 'The Defects', and the new SBS drama 'Try', which premieres today (25th), all of which feature Song Young-kyu.
Amid this, Song Young-kyu is listed in the casting lineup of 'Shakespeare in Love,' which will be performed tonight. A representative from the play noted to OSEN, "Today's performance will inevitably feature actor Song Young-kyu on stage. We are currently having internal discussions regarding the casting schedule going forward."
The production team of 'The Defects' is also discussing the editing of Song Young-kyu's scenes. In this regard, the 'The Defects' side told OSEN, "Since 'The Defects' is a pre-produced drama, filming has already been completed, and we will minimize edits to the extent that it does not affect the flow of the drama or viewer perception." They added, "Some scenes that must inevitably appear for the continuity of the drama may be difficult to edit, so we ask for your understanding."
'Try' is also gathering details on the related news. However, since 'Try' is also a pre-produced work that has completed filming, it is expected that complete edits will be difficult.
