Actor Choi Woo-shik is considering the lead role in the new work 'Whale Star,' based on a popular webtoon.
According to OSEN's coverage on the 25th, Choi Woo-shik has recently received a casting proposal for 'Whale Star' and is reportedly reviewing his participation positively.
The Naver Webtoon 'Whale Star,' which has already garnered much anticipation for its drama adaptation from numerous fans since winning the President's Award at the 2021 Korea Content Awards, is currently in the final stages of scheduling and casting and is actively preparing for shooting.
'Whale Star,' inspired by The Little Mermaid, is a melodrama about Kang Ui-hyun, a man who devoted everything to his country during the anti-Japanese movement in the Japanese colonial period, and Sua, a woman who risks her life to protect him. The production is directed by Hur Jin-ho, known for being one of the best directors in historical dramas, while Choi Yoon-man, recognized as a top cinematographer with works like 'My Annoying Brother' and 'A Model Family,' is overseeing the filming, drawing significant attention in the industry.
Choi Woo-shik has been offered the role of independence activist Kang Ui-hyun in the drama and is considering his participation. Kang Ui-hyun forms a special bond with Sua, a 17-year-old girl working as a servant for a pro-Japanese landlord in colonial Korea.
This year, Choi Woo-shik, who showcased his talents in the Netflix 'Melo Movie,' is on the verge of releasing his next work, the new SBS drama 'Would You Merry Me.' Attention is focused on whether he will present the much-talked-about 'Whale Star' as his subsequent project.
