It has been seven years since former KBS announcer Jeong Mi-hong passed away.
Jeong Mi-hong, a former announcer with KBS, died on July 25, 2018, at the age of 60.
The deceased, who was the former secretary-general of the Patriots Party, was memorialized on the official website of the party at that time with the message, "Former Secretary-General Jeong Mi-hong of the Patriots Party went to heaven early this morning. May she rest in peace. Due to the family's wishes, we cannot disclose the location of the funeral, so please mourn with your condolences for the deceased."
A close aide of former Secretary-General Jeong Mi-hong said, "She had suffered from a chronic disease called lupus and had been cured a long time ago, but her immune function was weakened due to this illness. She was diagnosed with lung cancer in January 2015 and was hospitalized after the cancer spread to her brain last February. After she was hospitalized, she tried her best to recover, but starting at the end of March, she was letting everything go and organizing her life."
He continued, "As she organized her life, she lamented the conflicts she had with the Patriots Party, saying, 'I was too sensitive, all of it was futile,' and asked us to 'be generous.'"
The late Jeong Mi-hong, a graduate of Ewha Womans University College of Law, joined KBS in 1982 and gained popularity as a prominent announcer until 1993. She served as the main MC for the national event of the Seoul Olympics in 1988 and also served as the first Director of public relations in Seoul.
After leaving her position as an announcer, she ventured into politics, serving as a spokesperson for the campaign of Seo Beom-soo, a candidate for Mayor of Seoul, in 1995. In 2011, she was a special committee member of the Grand National Party, and in 2012, a special committee member for the Saenuri Party, serving as the secretary-general and a supreme committee member of the Patriots Party. Last year, she also advocated against the impeachment of former President Park Geun-hye and called for her release.
