Jo Jung-seok plays Jeong-hwan, a devoted father who undertakes secret training for his daughter Sua, the last zombie in the world, having a past as a wild animal trainer. Jo Jung-seok, known for driving box office success in Korea's summer cinema with films like Exit (2019/9.42 million) and Pilot (2024/4.71 million), is set to make a return with My Daughter is a Zombie after a year, signaling another anticipated hit.
Jo Jung-seok, who has been praised for his high degree of synchronization with the original, said, "I deliberately went into filming without watching the original, but when I saw it afterward, I felt that the way of speaking and the character feeling in the original had a different nuance from the Jeong-hwan I portrayed. I thought I was able to act Jeong-hwan in my own way." He added, "The director said he wrote the script with me in mind, which made me feel good. I really liked this script and really wanted to do it."
Jo Jung-seok married singer Gummy in October 2018 and welcomed a daughter in August 2020. His daughter is currently 6 years old and he noted that she is too young to watch My Daughter is a Zombie.
He said, "My daughter is 6 years old and I don't think she will understand the movie yet. These days, when she sees monsters, she says 'Ah, it's a monster!' and gets scared. I think she would be frightened if zombies appear in the theaters," he laughed. On that day, a family preview will be held, but Gummy might not attend because she has to watch their daughter. Jo Jung-seok remarked, "I often invite my family to the movies I star in. But Gummy might not come. Someone has to watch the kid. But if she can't see it today, she can watch it after the release," he said, adding, "I invited the members of Palgongsan, but those who are going to come will come, and those who are not won't."
According to Gummy, their daughter is known to be the spitting image of her father Jo Jung-seok, and she described, "You can think of it as if my face just has longer hair.
