The Netflix series 'Aema' has confirmed its release date for Aug. 22 (Friday) and unveiled its teaser poster and teaser trailer.
'Aema', directed by Lee Hae-Young, whose first series work has captivated audiences with unique subjects and appealing characters, ranging from 'The Drug King', 'Spirit', to 'Madonna', will meet global viewers on Aug. 22 (Friday). 'Aema' is a Netflix series that depicts the story of top star 'Hee-ran', who bravely confronts the dark reality hidden behind the glamorous spotlight during the birth process of erotic films that swept Korea in the 1980s, and rising actress 'Ju-ae'.
The disclosed teaser poster captivates attention with the image of 'Hee-ran' (Lee Hyun-yi), referred to as the best top star of her time, and new actress 'Ju-ae' (Bang Hyo-rin) against the backdrop of a theater showcasing the legendary film 'The Wife of Aema'. The contrasting appearances of the two, including their gazes, expressions, makeup, and outfits, spark curiosity about the unique chemistry they will present through their interconnected stories in 'The Wife of Aema'. In particular, the tagline, "In an era that seeks to reveal, we boldly overturn the norm," heightens curiosity about how the two will band together against unreasonable power within that era and system.
The teaser trailer, released along with the poster, draws attention by capturing the stories of four characters surrounding the film 'The Wife of Aema' and the glamorous underbelly of Chungmuro during that time. 'Hee-ran', who was called the top star of the 1980s, expresses her anger at the exposure-driven script filled with the word 'breast' and boldly declares a boycott to 'Gu Jung-ho' (Jin Sun-kyu), but due to a film contract, she must appear in 'The Wife of Aema'.
In response, film company representative 'Gu Jung-ho' demotes 'Hee-ran' to the supporting role of 'Erika' and organizes a large-scale audition with rookie director 'Kwack In-woo' (Jo Hyun-cheol) to find a new 'Aema', discovering the bold and charming 'Ju-ae'. 'Ju-ae's request, "Please make me Jeong Hee-ran," prompts the response from 'Hee-ran', "Interesting," foreshadowing a subtle tension between the two as they intrigue audiences about what kind of relationship they will develop. Additionally, the conflict between 'Hee-ran', who has always been in the spotlight, and rookie actress 'Ju-ae', who has never stood in front of a camera, along with the opposition between production company representative 'Jung-ho' and director 'In-woo', indicates that the process of completing the film will not be smooth. Moreover, 'Aema' aims to attract global viewers as it authenticates various spaces and vibrant costumes reflective of the era.
'Aema', which joyfully and cleverly portrays the sensational solidarity of two women trying to strike back at the world in their own ways amid the stories surrounding the filming of the legendary film 'The Wife of Aema', will be released exclusively on Netflix on Aug. 22 (Friday).
