"My Daughter is a Zombie" star Lee Jung-eun shared her feelings about working alongside Jo Jung-seok.
On the morning of the 24th, an interview with Lee Jung-eun, the lead actress of the movie "My Daughter is a Zombie," was held at a cafe in Sogyeok-dong, Jongno, Seoul.
"My Daughter is a Zombie" (directed by Pil Gam-sung, distributed by NEW, produced by Studio N) is a comic drama about a father (played by Jo Jung-seok), who embarks on a secret training mission to protect his daughter (played by Choi Yu-ri), who has become the last zombie in the world. The film, a screen adaptation of the popular webtoon of the same name, showcases the compelling direction of Pil Gam-sung, known for his work on engaging films like "Hostage" and "A Day of Luck." A plethora of experienced personnel, including those who worked on hits like "Train to Busan," "Extreme Job," "Exit," "Hansan: Rising Dragon," "The Roundup," and the Netflix series "All of Us Are Dead," were involved in the production.
Lee Jung-eun plays the role of Bamsun, a lively grandmother from Eunbong-ri, who is well-versed in drinking and dancing, as well as K-pop. The plot unfolds dramatically as her son Jung-hwan heads to the seaside village of Eunbong-ri to rescue his daughter Sua, who has been infected by a zombie virus. Lee Jung-eun reunites with director Pil Gam-sung for the first time since the Tving series "A Day of Luck" (2003).
When asked, "Aren't you too young to play Jo Jung-seok's mother?" she responded, "Right? (laughs) It's actually a burden to act through visual media at my age," and added, "The director suggested casting me during 'A Day of Luck.' He asked about my schedule and expressed a desire to cast me."
She continued, "Director Pil Gam-sung is known for his 'bloody sensitivity.' He excels at shooting genre films. Even though zombies appear, I hadn't seen the webtoon. The story is about saving a granddaughter, and the title was very impressive. I thought, 'If it's Director Pil Gam-sung, he would pay attention to each scene.' I considered that although I play a mother's role, I could express it well if the approach were cartoonish, and 'could I not become Jo Jung-seok's mother?' Lastly, I remembered that I had good chemistry with Jo Jung-seok when we worked together on the tvN drama 'Oh My Ghost.' I had fond memories when we both were cast."
Lee Jung-eun is noted as the actress with the closest synchronization to the original work, stating, "My facial features are centralized. (laughs) My eyes look smaller when I wear glasses. I bear a resemblance in those aspects. I appreciated the efforts of the makeup team that helped create this face. I was worried, 'What will those who saw the webtoon first think? Won't it look rough?' but I think they managed the adjustments well."
Meanwhile, "My Daughter is a Zombie" is set to be released on the 30th.
