Actor Kim Sung-oh added tension to the drama with his diverse facets and actions in "Low Life."
Kim Sung-oh drew attention by diving into the bona fide treasure hunt in episodes 4 and 5 of Disney+ original series "Low Life," released on 23rd, showcasing his raw nature and actions.
"Low Life" is a story about hardworking people who deceive and are deceived to claim a sunken treasure ship in the sea in 1977. In the early part of the drama, Kim Sung-oh appeared as a driver for Yang Jeong-suk (played by Lim Soo-jung), leaving a heavy impression with his expressionless demeanor and restrained actions. However, he revealed a completely different side in front of Oh Kwan-seok (played by Ryu Seung-ryong) and Oh Hee-dong (played by Yang Se-jong), stimulating the viewers' curiosity with his "two-faced character."
Kim Sung-oh's true character as Jeon Chul was revealed as he vigorously engaged as an action-oriented member of Kwan-seok's group. His bold behavior for profit even led Kwan-seok to question, "Are you a gangster?" Additionally, he not only proactively suggested the direction of the operation before heading out to sea but also played a key role as a person with quick judgment.
However, when Jeong-suk came down to Mokpo, Jeon Chul's attitude changed. Based on blind loyalty, he sharply restrained Hee-dong when he attempted to get close to Jeong-suk, capturing attention. Jeon Chul's unpredictable dual nature heightened the tension in the drama while also sparking more curiosity about the future narrative between the characters.
Kim Sung-oh guided his character more through actions, expressions, and eyes than through dialogue. In scenes where he silently surveyed his surroundings and moved first when threats were detected, Kim Sung-oh's unique weighty expressive power shone through. His detailed performance conveyed a sense of the character's past and trust issues without needing to verbalize them, making Jeon Chul a more three-dimensional character.
As Jeon Chul finally stepped onto the boat for the serious treasure hunt, anticipation grew about how his presence, which moves through action rather than words, will impact the unfolding of the drama. Alongside this, Kim Sung-oh's intense yet restrained performance makes viewers pay closer attention to Jeon Chul's upcoming exploits.
Meanwhile, Disney+ original series "Low Life," featuring Kim Sung-oh's passionate performance, is released every Wednesday with two episodes, totaling 11 episodes.
