On the occasion of the third anniversary of the group NewJeans' debut, pre-debut interviews with the members were revealed.
ADOR, NewJeans' agency, posted a video titled '[NewJeans Day] We are NewJeans' on its official YouTube channel on the 22nd.
The video released that day featured interviews with members of NewJeans a month before their debut. The interviews, filmed in May and June 2022, captured the members' excitement about achieving their dream of debuting.
Hae-rin noted, "It feels real but also unreal. Although there are ongoing schedules and filming, it feels surreal. I think it will be very different to show what we do to the countless people we haven't met and to see their reactions."
Min-ji said, "We are debuting in a summer that is going to be a bit hotter than now, and I'm really excited and nervous. While we practiced together, we were only in the practice room, but coming to such a beautiful house while filming is amazing. I expect there will be even more once we debut, so I'm really looking forward to it, and I want to spread our music to the world, so I really want to show it to everyone as soon as possible."
Daniel shared, "We've practiced a lot singing while dancing, and from the moment we started practicing live, I felt it was coming. It's a little nerve-wracking, but thinking about doing it with the members makes me very excited and really happy." Hae-in reminisced, "When we went to the amusement park, there was that time we danced twice at the end. That was so happy. The smile on my face at that moment was genuine happiness. Dancing together at that beautiful amusement park at night was so joyful; we had a lot of fun together."
Hanni remarked, "It was the first time I was dancing in a real outdoor location, and it was my first time needing to follow the camera. I was so sleepy in the morning that it felt like headbanging. I don't think the filming was hard for us at all. It felt really fun and enjoyable, so I think it didn't feel difficult, but I really liked it. Honestly, it was so fun that I forgot to contact my parents and got scolded a lot."
Finally, the members expressed a desire to become 'close friends' with fans, stating, "We are just like the fans and the public, so we would like to be seen as friends. Only a month is left until we show our first appearance, and we have worked really hard with our staff and all five members, so we appreciate you suffering with us and look forward to seeing you next time."
They continued, "We have been preparing for a long time, and we hope everyone feels good and positive energy watching our video. We really hope you watch us for a long, long time. We hope to maintain a family-like bond filled with love and always wait for that kind of connection with our fans."
Meanwhile, NewJeans burst onto the music scene in July 2022, sweeping domestic and international charts immediately after their debut with the terms 'first', 'fastest', and 'highest'. However, activities were stalled due to a conflict with the former ADOR CEO Min Hee-jin that arose from an internal audit at HYBE last year.
The NewJeans members declared during a press conference in November last year that ADOR had violated the exclusive contract obligations and announced their intention to terminate the contract. They subsequently ceased all activities while fulfilling only their scheduled engagements. The five members anticipated an independent path under the new team name 'NJZ', but the court accepted ADOR's injunction application, putting a halt to their plans.
