"Gyeonwoo and the Fairy" has rushed toward a sad ending.
In the 10th episode of the tvN Monday-Tuesday drama "Gyeonwoo and the Fairy" (directed by Kim Yong-wan, written by Yang Ji-hoon, planned by CJ ENM, produced by Studio Dragon, DEXTER Pictures, and EO Contents Group), the evil spirit Bongsu (played by Choo Young-Woo) who took over Baegyeonwoo's (played by Choo Young-Woo) body ran rampant. Park Seong-ah (played by Cho Yi-hyun) realized he was trying to transcend himself. Moreover, the ending shocked everyone when the grim reaper took away General Dongcheon, not Bongsu or Yeomhwa.
The unpredictable developments led to explosive viewer reactions. The 10th episode recorded an average rating of 4.2% and a peak of 4.8% based on households in the metropolitan area, while the national average rating was 4.4% with a peak of 5.1%, maintaining the top spot during the same time slot, including cable and general programming. The target demographic of tvN, viewers aged 20 to 49, also captured the nationwide top rating of 1.9%. (based on Nielsen Korea paid households)
On this day, the backstory of how the evil spirit Bongsu took over Baegyeonwoo's body was revealed. It was due to Yeomhwa's scheme. The statement that seeing blood would get him involved with a ghost led to Bongsu injuring Baegyeonwoo. Although Bongsu, who took Baegyeonwoo's body with Yeomhwa's help, did not want to become an evil deity as he wished. It was unfortunate that Bongsu's true intention to seize Baegyeonwoo's body was to live as a human. The confession from Bongsu, which sounded like wanting to be loved, prompted General Dongcheon to advise Park Seong-ah not to look too hatefully at him, but to examine her heart. To protect Baegyeonwoo, they needed to protect Bongsu. While Bongsu spent time in Baegyeonwoo's body, Baegyeonwoo wandered through Bongsu's memories. There, Baegyeonwoo discovered two student soldiers. Park Seong-ah, who called out Baegyeonwoo during the ghost's time-frame, asked him to find out why Bongsu had become a ghost.
Meanwhile, Yeomhwa noticed that Bongsu had no intention of becoming his body master and decided to shake his mind. Bongsu, who was content to live as Baegyeonwoo, fell into confusion at Yeomhwa's remark that Park Seong-ah was going to summon Baegyeonwoo during the ceremony. Additionally, Yeomhwa provoked Bongsu by asking if he was not curious about Park Seong-ah's true feelings. Bongsu, who fell for Yeomhwa's provocation, opened his eyes instead of Baegyeonwoo during the ceremony. Bongsu was hurt by the warm embrace of Park Seong-ah, who treated him differently, and the words about finding a way to transcend him.
Once Bongsu realized Park Seong-ah's feelings, he began to go astray. Not only did he declare he would quit archery, which was Baegyeonwoo's dream, but he also asked to be called Baegyeonwoo. Taking Park Seong-ah to the memorial for student soldiers, Bongsu spoke of why he became a ghost, burying the 'silver ring' that he had possessed in front of the memorial. Observing this, Pyo Ji-ho (played by Cha Kang-yoon) resolved not to watch Bongsu treat Park Seong-ah and Baegyeonwoo carelessly. Pyo Ji-ho, who went to find Yeomhwa, inquired if he would have to yield Baegyeonwoo's body like this. Seeing this as his last chance, Yeomhwa successfully used Pyo Ji-ho to obtain the 'spiritual object' that Bongsu had possessed, the silver ring.
Yeomhwa shattered the silver ring to summon the grim reaper. Park Seong-ah and General Dongcheon also began a ritual to protect Bongsu from the grim reaper. General Dongcheon concealed Bongsu's location so the grim reaper couldn't find him, while Park Seong-ah misled the grim reaper in the wrong direction. Although the operation seemed to be going well, Bongsu brought an unexpected variable. In unbearable pain, Bongsu recited the 'summoning spell' to call the grim reaper, stating that the one who should die was not him but Yeomhwa.
However, the person the grim reaper approached was not Yeomhwa but General Dongcheon. General Dongcheon had become a human talisman to protect Yeomhwa. The ending, where General Dongcheon passed away after saving Yeomhwa, was heart-wrenching. Attention is focused on what choice Bongsu, who has met all the conditions to become an evil deity, will make at the last moment, and what changes will occur to Yeomhwa, who belatedly realizes General Dongcheon's true feelings.
