Actor Song Jin-woo supports Lee Jung-hoo as a special commentator for Major League Baseball (MLB).
On the 26th (Saturday), Song Jin-woo will join the broadcast booth for the MLB New York Mets versus San Francisco game with SPOTV caster Son Sang-hyeok and commentator Han Seung-hoon. Having built a strong friendship with Major Leaguer Lee Jung-hoo, he participated in the 'Korean Heritage Night' event at Oracle Park, the home stadium of the San Francisco Giants, last May and was selected as the 'honorary captain', personally conducting the lineup exchange before the game.
Song Jin-woo noted, "Thanks to the Korean Major Leaguers currently active, I was introduced to MLB baseball. It is truly a great honor to be able to commentate on MLB, and I hope you will support 'cute cheerleader' Song Jin-woo well," expressing his feelings about becoming a special commentator. He also drew attention due to his friendship with Lee Jung-hoo, saying, "My connection with Lee Jung-hoo started when I coincidentally met him, his brother Lee Jong-beom, and sister-in-law at a meat restaurant I often visit." He continued, "My mother requested that I host part 2 of the wedding for Lee Jung-hoo's younger sister Lee Ga-hyun and player Ko Woo-seok, which led to our interaction and naturally formed a friendship," revealing the moment they first met.
While Song Jin-woo officially received a proposal to host the second part of the wedding, he stated that he had to decline due to drama filming schedules. He added, "However, as soon as filming ended, I rushed over to attend the wedding," sharing an anecdote. Regarding his friendship with the wedding's main character Ko Woo-seok, he humorously responded, "We have an SNS follow-back relationship." Song Jin-woo further commented, "I also followed player Kim Hye-sung, who is active in MLB, first, and he followed me back. I did it out of fan spirit, and I want to take this opportunity to express my gratitude."
Song Jin-woo vividly shared the atmosphere and feelings of the special moment when he served as the honorary captain during a game. He recounted, "The day I attended was 'Korean Heritage Night', a game dedicated to Korean cultural heritage. I went out with manager Bob Melvin for the lineup exchange, and it was truly an honor for my family to see my face and introduction on the Oracle Park scoreboard." He continued, "During that game, Jung-hoo hit his first home run of the season at Oracle Park, and I went to watch the next day's game, where he hit another home run, making me think, 'Whenever I watch, Jung-hoo seems to hit home runs.'"
Having experienced attending games at Oracle Park, Song Jin-woo strongly recommended watching MLB games. He remarked, "Oracle Park is truly beautiful. You can see the Bay Bridge, and it looks like a painting, touching the sea. If you go while Jung-hoo is active, you will create unforgettable MLB memories," he said to fans contemplating attending.
Song Jin-woo, an experienced spectator of MLB games, revealed that aside from Korean Major Leaguers, he recently has an interest in another player: Shohei Ohtani, who is active with the Los Angeles Dodgers. He expressed, "It's amazing how in the top of the first inning he pitched and allowed a home run, then in the bottom of the first inning as a batter, he hit a go-ahead home run. My wife is also Japanese, which makes me feel closer, and I would like to have a meal with him if the opportunity arises."
What kind of younger brother is Lee Jung-hoo to Song Jin-woo? He stated, "I found out that Jung-hoo is actually a junior from Whimoon Middle School. Although there is an age difference of over 10 years, I see him more as a 'star' than a younger brother. I sincerely hope he becomes a true superstar, not just a supporter from my school."
Finally, Song Jin-woo remarked, "The feelings I had when I watched Park Chan-ho as an elementary school student have returned as I see the efforts of Korean Major Leaguers currently striving in MLB. I initially had no great interest in baseball, but these days I find myself continuously looking up information and cheering for them," he concluded. He added, "I ask for a lot of support and love for our players playing overseas, and I hope you will also love SPOTV."
Meanwhile, Lee Jung-hoo's San Francisco team will begin a three-game series against the New York Mets starting on the 26th (Saturday). There is growing interest in whether Lee Jung-hoo can lead his team to victory amid superstars like '1 trillion won man' Juan Soto, as well as Pete Alonso and Francisco Lindor from the New York Mets.
