Singer Chu challenges herself to acting again after 6 years through 'My Girlfriend is a Tough Guy.'
An online production presentation for the new KBS2 Wednesday-Thursday drama 'My Girlfriend is a Tough Guy' (written by Lee Hae-na, directed by Yoo Kwan-mo) was held on the 23rd.
'My Girlfriend is a Tough Guy' is based on a popular Naver webtoon of the same name, depicting a chaotic romance between a girlfriend, Kim Ji-eun (Arin), who suddenly becomes a flower boy overnight, and her boyfriend, Park Yoon-jae (Yoon San-ha), who cannot give up on such a girlfriend. The original work has also been released in Chinese and Thai, proving its global popularity beyond Korea.
Chu appears as Kang Min-joo, a hot girl at Yeonhui University who has a crush on Park Yoon-jae, showcasing her unique presence. After being named in the main cast of tvN D's 'Essential Love Education,' Chu naturally blends into the character of Kang Min-joo and intensifies the tension of the drama by getting entangled with Park Yoon-jae (Yoon San-ha), Kim Ji-eun (Arin), and Kim Ji-hoon (Yoo Jung-hoo).
Chu said, "The story came across as very fresh and interesting, so I enjoyed reading the script. I was quite nervous returning to acting after a long time, but since my colleagues are around the same age, I was able to act more comfortably. When I read the script, I imagined how I would react in the process of having a crush, and it felt like a character I liked. So I took on the challenge with confidence and hope it will be warmly received."
Having returned to acting after about 6 years, Chu said, "I am nervous and excited about this acting challenge, especially since it's a serious role. I was quite anxious, but the character itself was someone I wanted to be during school, and it's appealing because it's a queen that everyone wants to experience at least once. It was interesting to be able to freely showcase how I would be if I were a queen. I enjoyed expressing myself as I wanted, and there were parts of the character that resembled me, which made acting enjoyable. I hope the character Min-joo comes across as charming and vibrant to viewers."
The production team reacted by saying, "Did Chu act this well?" Chu added, "I saw that interview and thought they said that because they liked us so much. The atmosphere on set was good, and the teamwork was great, so I was able to participate joyfully. I think that sincerity came through well."
The new KBS2 Wednesday-Thursday drama 'My Girlfriend is a Tough Guy' will premiere on the 23rd at 9:50 p.m.
