The Korea Music Copyright Association is stepping up cooperation with the China Music Copyright Association.
The Korea Music Copyright Association (hereafter referred to as KOMCA) announced that it visited Beijing, China, from June 25 to 26 to hold a working meeting with the China Music Copyright Association (hereafter referred to as MCSC) to strengthen cooperation between the two organizations.
This visit included KOMCA Secretary-General Hwang Seon-cheol and International Affairs Director Byun Jae-woong, among other KOMCA staff, while MCSC's side was represented by Vice President and Secretary-General Liu Ping and Deputy Secretary-General Jia Song, who directly welcomed the KOMCA delegation and reaffirmed the close cooperative relationship between the two organizations.
The meeting was held over two days, focusing on substantial and specific agendas such as ▲ the status of K-POP licensing operations in China ▲ the actual use of MCSC works in Korea ▲ and data maintenance measures to improve the accuracy of work registration between the two countries.
Through this discussion, the two organizations acknowledged the importance of copyright protection and cooperation between Korea and China amidst the integrated flow of the global music market, and agreed to continue practical and ongoing cooperation in various areas, including sharing copyright information and establishing a joint rights protection system.
KOMCA stated that through this visit, it has further strengthened trust and friendship between the music copyright organizations of the two countries, which will serve as a foundation for providing more opportunities to domestic music creators and industry workers.
Additionally, KOMCA noted that as MCSC recently reached a meaningful agreement with Tencent, which represents digital music service providers (similar to domestic platforms such as Melon, Genie, and Bugs) in China for future cooperation, a clue has been established to resolve the issue of unauthorized use of Korean music works in China. KOMCA stated that it will continue to do its best to ensure that royalties for Korean music works in China are collected and distributed fairly through close cooperation with MCSC.
