Hollywood actress Reese Witherspoon's daughter, Ava Philip (25), is set to embark on a full-fledged acting career following in her mother's footsteps. Ava will take the lead role in the romantic comedy based on the graphic novel, "Laura Dean Keeps Breaking Up With Me," marking her debut as a leading actress.
Ava, a second-generation actress born to Reese Witherspoon and her ex-husband Ryan Philip, has made a name for herself in minor roles in productions such as "Doctor Odyssey" and "Ransom Canyon." However, in this work, she will portray the title character, "Laura Dean," showcasing her presence as she drives the narrative.
"Laura Dean Keeps Breaking Up With Me" is based on Mariko Tamaki's bestselling graphic novel of the same name, featuring a story about same-sex relationships and personal growth set in a high school. Ava plays the role of Laura, the school's most popular girl, while Sam Morelos from "That 90s Show" will star as her love interest, Frederica 'Freddy' Riley, who continually breaks up and reconciles.
The film is directed by Tommy Dorfman, known for "13 Reasons Why." Dorfman praised, "During auditions for the Freddy role, Sam perfectly expressed the character's quirks, authenticity, and artistry," adding, "Ava was also so natural as Laura, and their chemistry was electric."
Ava expressed her excitement about the news via her Instagram story, stating, "Finally, it's happening! I'm ready to break your hearts!" The image released alongside this statement featured Laura with pink hair in a school uniform, with the word "LIAR" scrawled across it, hinting at the complexity of relationships in the film.
Fans have reacted to the announcement of Ava's first leading role by saying, "We are finally ready to see you on screen!", "You look fantastic!", and "The birth of a next-generation star!"
On the other hand, there are still sharp criticisms that she obtained the lead role easily due to her parents, referred to as a 'nepo baby.'
Meanwhile, the film is currently in the pre-production stage, with principal photography expected to begin in the second half of the year. Attention is focused on whether Ava will establish herself as the next leading lady in romantic comedies following her mother, Reese Witherspoon.
