Actor Jung Yong-joo is set to make a powerful acting transformation through the play 'Equus.'
The agency HB Entertainment announced today (23rd) that "Actor Jung Yong-joo will perform in the play 'Equus,' which opens to commemorate the 50th anniversary of its Korean premiere. We ask for your high expectations for the deep acting and new transformation he will showcase on stage."
The play 'Equus,' in which Jung Yong-joo is participating, is based on a true story. 'Equus' is a Latin term meaning horse and vividly portrays the story of a boy named 'Alan Strang,' who blinded six horses, and the psychiatrist 'Martin Dysart' who treats him. It is a masterpiece that incisively and sharply explores the boundaries of madness and reason, God and man, primal passion and societal repression, deeply depicting the latent desires of humanity.
Jung Yong-joo will take on the role of 'Alan Strang,' who shocked people with his shocking behavior in 'Equus.' This role has been played by actors with outstanding acting skills, including Choi Min-sik, Jo Jae-hyun, Jung Tae-woo, and Ryu Deok-hwan. Having established himself as an actor through numerous works, Jung Yong-joo secured his role in 'Equus' by surpassing a competition rate of 300:1 based on his solid acting.
Jung Yong-joo expressed, "I feel like it's truly a dream to participate in the 50th anniversary performance of the play 'Equus,' and I'm very grateful," adding, "I will prepare with a sense of responsibility not to be a hindrance to the work while recalling the seniors who brilliantly illuminated the role of 'Alan.'"
Meanwhile, Jung Yong-joo, who has been active in various works such as the drama 'A History of Losers,' 'Motel California,' 'The Prefab Family,' and the movie 'The Blue House,' is drawing attention to how he will unfold dense emotions and a strong presence through the role of 'Alan,' where madness and meticulousness intersect.
The play 'Equus' will be performed at Yegreen Theater from October 3rd to February 1st next year.
