"When a person is alive, it is an emergency."
MBN 'Oh Eun-young Stay' reminded participants suffering from trauma for various reasons of the meaning of true comfort through a communication language that awakens their hearts.
On the 21st, the fifth episode of MBN's 30th anniversary national comfort project 'Oh Eun-young Stay' was broadcast, where another touching healing narrative was written alongside the new third-term participants. It featured unique stories from a trot singer who only showed a bright appearance to a participant who calls himself a grim reaper, along with the heartwarming confessions of these individuals carrying different stories and the comforting presence of Dr. Oh Eun-young, Ko So-young, and Moon Se-yoon.
First, a second-term participant, a funeral director, drew everyone's concern by living with a constant tension, listening to disaster alert-level ringtone 24 hours a day. The funeral director confessed that due to the hardships associated with his special profession, he had heard remarks like "please remove your hand" when he tried to hold family members' hands and "I don't want to talk to a corpse cleaner," leading to social phobia and trauma.
In response, Oh Eun-young said, "Just as I cannot decide when a person is born, I cannot decide when someone leaves this world either," while recalling the warm touch that comforted the funeral director during his national hero father's final moments in the Korean War. He expressed gratitude, saying, "I was so thankful that I could clean him up, comb his hair, and dress him in a beautiful shroud," encouraging him to feel that he could shed the prejudices about his profession.
Later, the funeral director mentioned that he collapsed on the day of the funeral due to heart pain and had to go to the emergency room but was only able to recover after being prescribed antidepressants. Oh Eun-young emphasized, "When a person is alive, it is an emergency," stating that "living as if non-emergency situations are emergencies is unsustainable. If I do not manage my daily life, health, and psychological stability, chronic fatigue accumulates, and I ultimately break down." After saying, "The funeral director felt like he was hit on the head," he immediately began to implement Oh Eun-young's solutions, creating a warm atmosphere.
Subsequently, the profiles of the third-term participants entering 'Oh Eun-young Stay' were revealed. The 'nagging daughter' expressed sharp emotions toward her mother who was driving on the way to Sanggye Temple, saying, "Clean up the mess you made, Mom. Don't put on an act again." This raised tensions. In addition, new faces emerged, including the handsome athlete and trot singer Ko Jong-woo, as well as a participant with the contrasting nickname 'grim reaper.'
In particular, Ko Jong-woo revealed that despite living with a positive image, "there are many sad things in my heart." Currently on antidepressants, he shared an extreme moment where he considered suicide, saying, "What can a person who has made up his mind to die not do? It doesn't matter if I die this way or that way," even going as far as to write a will, heightening curiosity about his real story.
During the segment 'Oh Talk' that followed, the stories of the nagging mother and daughter, which had piqued everyone's curiosity, were introduced. The daughter revealed, "I've heard a lot of nagging about my weight since childhood," saying her mother would tease her by pointing out overweight celebrities on TV, calling her names like Hulk and punk, which shocked everyone. The nagging daughter, expressing how such statements had lowered her self-esteem over the past 20 years, ultimately broke down in tears, lamenting, "I feel so sorry for the child I was."
The nagging mother said, "I was worried about my daughter gaining weight because I gave birth to her with great difficulty. I tried to feed her less as she kept gaining weight, and that is when she started to get angry," adding, "As her mother, I wanted to force her into dieting with even mental shock through fighting," while cautiously reflecting, "But I wonder if it caused the opposite effect."
Oh Eun-young asked, "Can you promise not to talk about weight from this time on?" The mother replied, "O," but Dr. Oh stated, "I believe it will be impossible," leaving everyone puzzled. Curiosity about Dr. Oh's intentions in asserting this to the 'nagging mother' and the evolution of the conflicts between the 'nagging mother' and 'nagging daughter' increased for the next episode.
Viewers of 'Oh Eun-young Stay' responded, saying, "I was moved to hear a person's true story," "I was reminded that comfort ultimately lies in attitude rather than words," and "I found myself reflecting on the words I had said to my family without realizing it."
