On the 21st, JYP Entertainment apologized regarding the controversy over excessive identity verification procedures being carried out on some audience members at a fan meeting for the group DAY6.
Earlier, DAY6 held a 10th anniversary fan meeting from the 18th to the 20th at the Jamsil Indoor Gymnasium. Several claims were made that some staff conducting identity checks during the entry process demanded excessive information. They reportedly confirmed the address and resident registration number, stating that the photo on the identification card did not match the actual person, and requested financial certification and school records for additional verification. Some claimed that parent identification cards, proof of family relations, and school records were also requested.
In response, JYP Entertainment issued a statement, saying, "We sincerely apologize to the audience who experienced discomfort and harm due to identity verification procedures for concert entry," and noted, "We have confirmed the excessive requests for and collection of personal information. In the process of entrusting entry management to the operating company, issues that caused inconvenience were raised, such as unnecessarily requesting additional personal information or collecting and sharing audience personal information for further verification of prepared documents."
It continued, "The purpose of the identity verification procedure was to distinguish between legitimate ticket holders and those illegally selling tickets by fraudulent means; however, in this case, we failed to demonstrate flexible responses and management responsibility," and added, "We deeply acknowledge the responsibility for the matter and will thoroughly manage to prevent personal information from being collected unfairly and invading individuals' privacy."
The agency promised to refund tickets for audience members who could not enter the performance due to excessive identity verification procedures, stating that further compensation procedures would be announced later. It also said, "We sincerely apologize once again for causing significant hurt to the audience and will do our utmost to ensure that the remaining fan meeting sessions can be enjoyed with joy."
