Singer Greg Leeba Priester introduced soulful songs and heart-wrenching stories.
On the 22nd, Greg appeared on KBS1's 'Morning Garden' segment 'Tuesday's Invitation' and shared various stories.
As he sang 'I miss you' to mark the beginning of 'Morning Garden', Greg said, 'I usually sing a lot in the evening. I had a schedule last night, so I wondered how I would sing from the morning, but I tried it.' Greg also noted, 'I first sang 'I miss you' on an audition program in 2014, and finally, after more than 10 years, a formal audio release has come out. It hasn't been released in karaoke yet. I hope many people will request it.'
Greg stated, 'I first came to Korea in 2007. Before that, I worked as an English instructor, and I began my activities in 2012.' He revealed that he has a great interest not only in soulful music but also in trot. Greg mentioned, 'I once sang 'Shabang Shabang' on an audition program' and showcased impromptu performances of 'Shabang' with soul and 'When this night passes,' to enthusiastic applause.
Greg, who became a singer 18 years ago, never thought he would be one. He said, 'My parents didn't believe I had become a singer, but nowadays they show my picture to Koreans and ask if they recognize me. I'm very grateful but a bit shy.' He smiled, saying, 'Mom, please stop' and sent a heartfelt video message, expressing, 'Thank you so much for your support.'
For Greg, Korea was 'the country he had only heard about.' He said, 'When I was in America, I didn't know much about Korea, so my family worried a lot. Overseas, the news about North Korea and other issues made people concerned around me. But I didn't worry much, as my father, who had served in the U.S. military in Korea, eased my worries.'
Greg was able to heal his wounds in Korea. He shared, 'I worked as a math teacher in the U.S., and it was very difficult. The students were inconsiderate, and the work was stressful. You might have fantasies from watching American dramas, but there were indeed students with firearms. It was so tough that I cried every day at home, and after consulting about my worries, I was suggested a break.'
Greg, who lost the memory of his fiancé in a car accident when he was 18 and started dating in 2005, struggled to share. He said, 'I researched a lot about Korea and had many interviews to get a job as an instructor, and it was much warmer and more comfortable compared to other countries. That's why I decided to come to Korea.' He mentioned, 'Working in Korea has allowed me to heal my wounds. Now, it feels like Korea is my first home.'
Currently, for Greg, Korea is 'the country that made him dream.' Greg, who is busy with wedding requests and television appearances, revealed that his mother has undergone back surgery and mentioned he would be heading to America soon. Although travelling during a busy season may be a significant loss for his agency, the agency's representative showed generosity by booking him a first-class ticket, moving him deeply.
