Actor Choi Philip delivered another touching story about his son's recovery after overcoming childhood cancer.
Choi Philip married a non-celebrity, nine years his junior, in 2017, welcomed his first daughter in 2019, and embraced his son, Dowoon, in February 2023. However, his four-month-old son was diagnosed with liver cancer, leading to a total of six treatments, including three rounds of chemotherapy, liver resection, and subsequent additional chemotherapy.
Choi Philip noted, "It was during the COVID-19 period. I couldn't even switch caregivers, so I was solely dedicated to nursing. There were days when I had to hold him 24 hours because he kept crying when laid down." He recalled that "both sets of parents cried. But there was no time to cry. The only thought was to save the child. At that time, even tears were a luxury."
Dowoon, who has received a treatment conclusion determination, is now four years old. He is growing up healthily, smiling, and bright. Choi Philip reported, "He undergoes blood tests and ultrasound exams every three months."
However, in May, there was another anxious moment. Choi Philip confessed through social media, "In the test conducted every three months, the tumor marker slightly exceeded the normal range for the first time. Each day for two weeks was nerve-wracking," adding, "I prayed and waited. Fortunately, the marker returned to a normal level."
Choi Philip said, "I cried. During Dowoon's treatment period, the time spent with our family of four was the greatest joy… After the treatment ended, I took that time for granted. But there is no such thing as a normal day. Every day was a blessing." Lastly, he left a deep message by saying, "Do not take today for granted. Every day is a gift, and every day is a miracle. The most precious time for us is this moment."
