Director Matt Shakman of 'Fantastic Four' mentioned the differences of 'Fantastic Four' within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
On the 21st, an online press conference was held for 'Fantastic Four: A New Beginning' (director: Matt Shakman, distribution by: Walt Disney Company Korea).
'Fantastic Four: A New Beginning' is a Marvel summer action blockbuster about four astronauts who gain unexpected abilities and become superheroes. They confront a devastating villain named 'Galactus' to protect the world, and it is set to hit theaters nationwide on July 24.
Director Matt Shakman, who received acclaim for the well-made Disney+ series 'WandaVision,' teamed up again with screenwriter Peter Cameron, and the inclusion of Hollywood stars such as Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach has garnered interest.
On that day, when asked about how 'Fantastic Four' differs from other MCU series, the director explained, "It's because this work tells the story of Marvel's first family, a real family. The core is that it encompasses the conflicts, struggles, and love that all universal families experience."
He continued, "Deciding to make a family into superheroes was an original and bold choice at the time of the comic book's birth. Also, if we recall the 1960s when they were created, Marvel Studios was facing difficulties. I believe that without the success of the Fantastic Four, Marvel might not exist today. They have an appealing and special aspect to them."
He added, "I am happy to introduce a Fantastic Four that I was a fan of to the MCU. However, there are cautious aspects regarding what role this project might play in the future."
The director remarked, "In some ways, it's like a relay race. I will fulfill my role and pass the baton to the next runner, and I have done my part. The next runner will be Director Russo, who will be appearing in the two Avengers films. I believe that he will do well with the storytelling."
