'The Defects' cast members praised Kim Jin-young (Dex).
On the 21st, a production press conference for ENA's new Monday-Tuesday drama 'The Defects' (written by Ahn So-jung, directed by Oh Ki-hwan) took place at the Stanford Hotel in Sangam-dong, Mapo, Seoul. Attending the event were director Oh Ki-hwan and actors Yum Jung-ah, Won Jina, Choi Young-jun, and Kim Jin-young (Dex).
'The Defects' is an action thriller depicting the desperate survival and revenge of children who barely survive on the brink of death after being abandoned by their adoptive parents. Based on a Kakao-webtoon that won the 'Best Creative Award' at the International Content Market SPP 2017 and has garnered over 51 million views, it attracts the attention of both webtoon enthusiasts and drama fans.
Yum Jung-ah plays the role of Kim Se-hee, the chairperson of a large hospital who runs a charity foundation. Outwardly respected as a celebrity doctor, she is actually the leader of an illegal adoption trafficking organization, carrying out the 'The Defects' business under the twisted belief that only superior genes should survive. Yum Jung-ah is expected to captivate viewers with a striking character unlike anything she has shown before.
Rising star Kim Jin-young plays the role of Jeong-hyun, a human weapon raised by Kim Se-hee (Yum Jung-ah) and the actual operator of the illegal adoption trafficking organization. Jeong-hyun is expected to lead the tension-filled developments while absolutely obeying Se-hee's commands. The chemistry between rookie actor Kim Jin-young and the reliable Yum Jung-ah is also anticipated as a major point of interest.
Yum Jung-ah and Kim Jin-young previously worked together on the tvN entertainment program 'Fresh off the Sea.' In Season 2, Kim Jin-young appeared as the final guest, sharing the joy of reunion, so there is much anticipation for their chemistry in both variety and acting.
Yum Jung-ah stated about Kim Jin-young, "As seen in 'Fresh off the Sea,' Kim Jin-young is a warm and cute youngest member. When acting as Jeong-hyun on set, she approached it seriously. With the attitude of showing everything and absorbing all, she has a lot of potential. I was really surprised by her attitude."
Choi Young-jun said, "I knew about Dex as an entertainer first and was a fan. What I like about Dex is his competitive spirit and fearlessness. Even before going on set, he would ask questions, and once the cameras started rolling, his eyes would sparkle. I've learned a lot, and I think he's a really great actor."
Won Jina laughed, saying, "Everyone is praising Kim Jin-young, which makes me a bit jealous." She continued, "Kim Jin-young tends to worry a lot. Since she has great strength, she seemed anxious about whether she would put her co-actors at risk while filming, but when the cameras were rolling, her eyes changed like another person, and it made me focus and shoot with tension."
