During the 4th Cheongryong Series Awards ceremony held on the 18th, actor Lee Jun-hyuk was announced as the winner of the Upbit Popular Star Award, but a mix-up occurred when actor Lee Jun-young, who has a similar name, went up on stage. Soon realizing the situation, Lee Jun-young smiled awkwardly and stepped down from the stage, sitting down while exchanging a natural hug with Lee Jun-hyuk.
In response, host Jun Hyun-moo noted, "The pronunciation was inaccurate. I was confused for a moment," unable to hide his flustered expression, while viewers laughed it off as a minor mistake that could happen during a live broadcast. Instead, Shin Dong-yeob, who was present, said, "I've done award shows for over 30 years, but today was the most fun," and applauded Lee Jun-young's natural handling of the situation.
Later, Lee Jun-young apologized politely through SNS, saying, "I made a nonsensical mistake because I couldn't hear well on site," and Lee Jun-hyuk warmly accepted it, stating, "I also made the same mistake at AAA. However, the problem lies in the excessive reactions of some fans. Comments demanding an explanation flooded Jun Hyun-moo's SNS because of the mispronunciation, and voices even emerged calling for an official apology. However, upon listening to the broadcast again, it appears that Jun Hyun-moo accurately pronounced 'Lee Jun-hyuk,' and the confusion seems to have stemmed from simple onsite noise and nerves.
The very subject, Lee Jun-young, even brushed off a comment during a fan meeting saying, "Isn't it the MC's fault?" to clarify, "No. It was all my fault." He added, "I've known Jun-hyuk for a while," bringing a smile by sharing that they had a connection through a film screening and conversations.
It was clearly a delightful incident that could occur during a live broadcast, and the actors handled the situation with great grace. However, the one-sided criticism from some fans not only amplified the embarrassment of those involved but also added unnecessary controversy to an incident that had concluded well.
Rather than blaming someone, there is a need for fans to listen a bit to the maturity shown by the actors in "going over it with a smile."
