"It was worse than the video..." The Yeosu restaurant controversy reignited through Poongja's interview
A restaurant in Yeosu, known for its recommendations by YouTuber Poongja, has been engulfed in a rudeness controversy for five days. The controversy, which was expected to die down, has instead intensified. Initially, the expose video by YouTuber A stirred considerable reaction, and A noted, "The situation was worse than what was captured in the video," which led to the controversy flaring up again.
On 19th, a video titled "I met a solo customer in Yeosu" was uploaded to the YouTube channel 'Studio Sujae.' The video features Poongja and YouTuber A, who stood at the center of the controversy, reflecting on the situation at that time. Poongja thanked A for appearing, saying, "It must have been a very difficult decision given how the issue has been hyped up, but you managed to come out despite the challenges."
A stated, "I received many interview requests but was frightened. However, I really wanted to talk with Poongja," explaining the reason for her appearance. Notably, A remarked, "People are expressing a lot of outrage after watching the video, but unfortunately, that video only shows part of the story. In reality, it was worse than the video."
According to A, the incident dates back to May 20. She explained, "After finishing my exam, I visited Yeosu, a city I love, and naturally dropped by the restaurant known as 'Ttoganjib.' Initially, I just wanted to have a meal; I didn't intend to cause any issues at all." However, she said the situation suddenly changed after entering the restaurant. A added, "As customers suddenly began to flock in, the owner started yelling, and when I turned on the camera, he said, 'We don't do that here.' Ironically, that moment was the least intense. The moments before were much worse."
A also responded to questions about prior consent, stating, "I didn't go there just to film; I naturally wanted to seek agreement." She added, "In fact, through this experience, I've realized that I must capture everything from now on," and expressed, "Just because one phrase wasn't included in the video, I'm currently dealing with many misunderstandings."
Previously, A disclosed that despite ordering for two people, the owner gave her the cold shoulder, saying, "Why are you ordering so much when you came alone?" and "Hurry up and eat and leave," igniting public outrage. The implicated restaurant also appeared in Poongja's food content 'Ttoganjib,' placing Poongja herself under criticism and causing the controversy to take an unexpected direction.
Through this interview, Poongja stated, "This is not a place to discuss the controversy; I wanted to hear the accurate story," adding, "I hope there will be no more misunderstandings."
Meanwhile, this situation has continued for five days since A's expose video was uploaded on the 16th. Online, criticism such as, "Isn't this a case of abuse of power?" and "There are too many places that treat customers poorly, thinking they can rely on their fame" has been spreading. Some have reacted by stating, "It's too excessive for Poongja to be criticized too," and, "I don't understand why the real victim, A, is facing such backlash."
