Actor Choi Kang-hee expressed her heartfelt feelings toward Director Yang Chi-seung, who is facing a crisis of closing his gym due to a $500 million rental fraud damage.
On the 16th, Choi Kang-hee posted on her social media, "Director, thank you until the end. The sight of you taking care of all the members without showing any signs during that time lingers in my mind. I cannot forget the gaze I saw for several days," expressing deep concern.
He continued, "I hope many people will support him. The director is someone who will succeed in whatever he does. I will help as much as I can with my prayers. Fighting," offering his support.
Yang Chi-seung opened his gym in 2018 after undergoing a large-scale renovation of a commercial building in Nonhyeondong, Gangnam, Seoul. He invested hundreds of millions of won and paid millions of won in monthly rent, but he later found out that this building was entangled in a complicated contributed acceptance contract between real estate development company A and the Gangnam district office.
The building was in a condition where Company A had donated it to the Gangnam district office under the condition of free use for 20 years, and when the free use period ended, the management rights would pass to the district office, requiring tenants to vacate. However, Company A concealed this fact from the tenants while entering into a lease agreement. As a result, Yang Chi-seung and over 10 other business owners were embroiled in a $20 billion neighborhood housing association fraud suspicion and suffered damages.
Yang Chi-seung took out a housing mortgage loan and invested 400 million won to open the gym, and he was pushed into a difficult situation due to deteriorating revenue caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. After the lease contract expired and the Gangnam district office took over the building management rights, he was notified to vacate, saying, "I don't even have money to move out. I never expected to be deceived like this."
The bigger problem is the deposit. Company A has not returned Yang Chi-seung's deposit of around 500 million won for 1 year and 6 months after his eviction. Although Yang Chi-seung acknowledges his negligence in neglecting to confirm the property registration, he expressed his grievance, saying, "I thought the company was the owner of the building, but they did not explain the internal agreement with the district office."
Ultimately, on the 15th, he posted a notice stating, "We will officially close the gym on July 25," formalizing the closure. After desperate efforts, Yang Chi-seung, who was unable to protect his dream space, left a message saying, "I am sorry to the members."
