KBS2 'Immortal Songs' cites his mother as the reason why Hwanhee has expanded into the realm of trot.
KBS2 'Immortal Songs' (directed by Park Hyung-geun, Kim Hyung-seok, and Choi Seung-beom) has been the undisputed best music entertainment program, holding the number one rating for nearly 14 years. The 715th episode airing today (19th) features 'Artist the late Hyun-cheol & Song Dae-kwan Part 2.'
On this day, Hwanhee draws attention by revealing the reason for his recent grants to participate in a trot audition program. Hwanhee said, "My mother said that my songs are too difficult to sing along to." He noted that this one comment inspired him to challenge himself with trot, surprising everyone. He continued, "I really love trot. I naturally grew up listening to it thanks to my mom and uncles since I was a child," conveying his love for trot. Notably, Hwanhee confessed that his fan base has changed through his trot challenge, saying, "The fan base has broadened significantly. The number of 'sister' and 'brother' fans has definitely increased," and he smiled, adding, "For the first time, I received cheers of 'Hwanhee-jjang!' on stage."
Furthermore, Hwanhee heightens interest by pointing out the changes corresponding to the increased age of his fans. He said, "I receive a lot of health products as gifts from fans. Basic items include raw food and red ginseng, and I've even received nurungji (scorched rice)." He expressed gratitude, saying, "I'm just thankful for their kindness," while clasping his hands together. In response, Jin Hae-sung noted, "There are fans who directly give me side dishes. The effort is remarkable. When I travel for events in local areas, I naturally learn about regional specialties as well," showcasing the expertise of trot seniors.
On this day, Hwanhee draws attention by naming Lee Ji-hoon as a target of rivalry. He remarked, "Everyone is a skilled performer, so I want to avoid them all, but I especially want to avoid senior Lee Ji-hoon." He added, "Although we're both trot newcomers, I don't actually want to face him head-on," capturing interest. Additionally, Hwanhee shows his enthusiasm as a trot singer by learning directly from senior Hwang Min-ho how to perform the 'trot gesture,' and he immediately tries it out, eliciting laughter.
The upcoming Part 2 broadcast will showcase a stage featuring the timeless hit songs of Hyun-cheol and Song Dae-kwan, transcending genres and generations. Five trot juniors will reinterpret these classics in their own styles, proving just how far trot can be reinvented. Lee Ji-hoon, Hwanhee, Enok, Hwang Min-ho, and Choi Soo-ho will engage in a fierce showdown for the last remaining seat of glory in the final championship.
The tribute stage for the late Hyun-cheol and Song Dae-kwan Part 1 aired on the 12th (Saturday), and Part 2 will reach viewers today (19th). 'Immortal Songs' is broadcast every Saturday at 6:05 p.m. on KBS 2TV.
