Director Jang Hang-jun reflected on his affluent childhood on 'How Do You Play?'
On the afternoon of 19th, Yoo Jae-suk and Haha went out to recruit members for 'Insamo', a gathering of 'famous but unpopular entertainers' selected by Haha, on the MBC variety show 'How Do You Play?'. They first met comedian Heo Kyung-hwan and also delivered an invitation to Tukut from the group Epik High.
Yoo Jae-suk and Haha finally met Jang Hang-jun, the husband of writer Kim Eun-hee and a well-known film director. Jang Hang-jun explained further, 'Taking the subway is comfortable. I take it a lot and interact with regular citizens, but on good days, I don't wear a mask. However, there are days when it's bothersome. On those days, I wear a mask. Sometimes there are times when I have to go quickly.'
On that day, Yoo Jae-suk and Haha were preparing to give Jang Hang-jun an invitation to 'Insamo' while having a meal together. While they were bickering, Jang Hang-jun remarked, 'You can't imagine the scale of my family's home. The world has improved, so we can sit down and eat together, but you can't sit down for a meal with me,' and he added, 'Of course, there was a bankruptcy in the middle,' which made everyone laugh.
Jang Hang-jun then mentioned a past episode, saying, 'When I was young, I always had private tutoring. Teachers came to our house. However, when the Fifth Republic was established, a ban on private tutoring was declared. I thought I would live without it, but about a month later, I ended up having secret tutoring.'
Jang Hang-jun said, 'Back then, if you were caught having private tutoring, your family would be in disarray. It was a serious crime. So, I told my mom, 'If you make me do it next month, I will report you to the police.' I cannot forget my mom's expression at that time,' which made everyone laugh.
Yoo Jae-suk was also surprised that Jang Hang-jun came from the 'Gangnam 8th District'. Jang Hang-jun mentioned, 'Doesn't my father have an old Air Force academy? He built several buildings there. He ran a construction company.'
He continued, 'It was a wealthy household. I never once did not have a driver when I was young,' grabbing attention. Jang Hang-jun then voluntarily revealed stories about his affluent childhood.
Jang Hang-jun said, 'Once, I went to school and they were planting trees at school. In the past, there were no trees in the mountains of Korea. The school told me to get a little money from home to buy trees. So I told my mom, but she didn't give me any.' He added, 'While we were in class, suddenly the kids and the teacher were looking out the window. The school gate opened, and several trucks carrying trees entered the school. When the truck doors opened, it was my mom. She had brought trees filled up.' Yoo Jae-suk and Haha were also astonished by Jang Hang-jun's childhood episode.
