Jun Hyun-moo, the eldest brother of "Brain Academy," performed a joyous "medal kiss ceremony" after winning a medal in the field of "economics."
In the 8th episode of the quiz show "Brain Academy" aired on the 17th, the six members of "Brains" gathered as a complete team, successfully earning a medal for economic knowledge. They also achieved their fourth knowledge medal after answering 100% of the quizzes from "Economics Master" Kim Dong-hwan, thrilling the viewers.
That day, Kim Dong-hwan began with, "Today, I want to talk about money. The topic is 'economic knowledge essential for protecting my money!'" Hwang Je-seong noted, "Talking about money is the most fun," and Kim Dong-hwan asked, "What exactly is money? Mr. Ji Seok-jin?" mispronouncing Ha Seok-jin's name, which made everyone burst into laughter. In a cheerful atmosphere, Kim Dong-hwan abruptly presented a quiz: "Find two currencies in Korea that cannot be exchanged." The "Brains" selected two out of five currency photos presented as options and ultimately answered correctly.
With the "Brains" easily answering the first question, Kim Dong-hwan shifted to discussing the European industrial revolution, mentioning the harsh conditions of workers at the time. He then asked a quiz: "What was the place commonly seen throughout major cities in 19th century England?" The accompanying photo showed a packed space filled with coffins, inducing chills. Gweido guessed, "A place for napping," while Jun Hyun-moo exclaimed, "A lodging." This was the correct answer, sending chills through everyone.
Next, Kim Dong-hwan explained the "Great Depression" that occurred in the United States and posed the quiz: "In 1933, President Roosevelt issued an order to prevent the public from possessing this to overcome the Depression. What is it?" Ha Seok-jin and Hwang Je-seong guessed, "Isn't it alcohol?" but Gweido suggested, "Could it be something like gold that can store value?" The "Brains" chose "gold," and that was correct as well. Immediately after, Jun Hyun-moo asked Kim Dong-hwan, "Is it okay to buy gold now?" eliciting laughter.
Next, Kim Dong-hwan asked the quiz, "What economic term do they all commonly mention?" along with Reagan's phrase: "( ) is as violent as a robber and as frightening as an armed robber, and as deadly as an assassin," and Thatcher's saying: "( ) is the source of experimentation. It is the invisible thief of base people." Ha Seok-jin guessed "prices," and Hwang Je-seong answered, "Inflation?" thereby correctly answering the question. Kim Dong-hwan offered economic tips, saying, "Korea is experiencing inflation now as well. We need to find value-preserving options for diversification investments." He further revealed about the "Japanese economy," saying, "During Japan's boom period, they had eight corporations among the top 10 in the world rankings of '50 largest corporations.' However, after 51 months of frenzied investments, the government noticed the problems and started raising interest rates, causing the economy to collapse." Along with this, he asked the quiz: "What special equipment was given to some bank bond recovery team staff after the collapse of the Japanese bubble economy?" Gweido answered, "Helmet," while Hwang Je-seong replied, "I got it! Bulletproof vest," correctly answering the question.
Amid Hwang Je-seong's consecutive correct answers, the topic of Korea's "IMF" finally came up. Kim Dong-hwan stated, "In 1997, we received IMF bailout funds. As a result, everyone started withdrawing their money from the banks, prompting the government to prepare measures," and posed the question: "What policy was implemented by all financial institutions from November 1997 to December 2000 to regain public trust in banks?" Ha Seok-jin asked, "Is it the Depositor Protection Act?" while Lee Sang-yeop inquired, "Is it full guarantee?" Thanks to the power of "crowdsourcing," the "Brains" correctly answered.
Finally, Kim Dong-hwan discussed investments and posed the final quiz, "Warren Buffett established the principle that 'if you don't plan to ( ) stocks, don't even think about owning them for 10 minutes.' What goes in the blank?" As everyone suddenly entered a state of "silent retreat," Kim Dong-hwan remarked, "I can't give a hint, but I will give Mr. Lee Sang-yeop a 'wife chance.'" Lee Sang-yeop cautiously called his wife, a securities worker in Yeouido, and as she answered the phone, he subtly indicated, "Honey, I'm on air now." His wife showed a slightly frosty reaction but soon provided a crucial hint. She also said, "Lee Sang-yeop is a kind and good husband," while asking, "Are you coming home today?" which sent the studio into an uproar. Once the call ended, Jun Hyun-moo encouraged, "Let's elegantly express the hint given by Mr. Lee Sang-yeop's wife, 'long-term holding' in a phrase that rhymes with '10 minutes,' isn't it '10 years'?" thus correctly answering. Jun Hyun-moo, who boasted of being a "triple crown winner in press exams" and the "language brain," expressed his joy by kissing the economic knowledge medal he wore around his neck.
