The start is in the Greater China region, with the goal of going global.
The Mnet global boy group project 'BOYS 2 PLANET' is set to unveil 'C PLANET' on the 18th, following the 17th K PLANET. Today focuses on the Greater China region.
The first episode of 'BOYS 2 PLANET C' will air on the 19th at 9:20 p.m. Boys aspiring to become top global K-POP artists will receive rankings through evaluations by the master team of 'Planet C': Kim Jaejoong, Lim Han-byeol, Hyorin, Back Kooyoung, Jrick, Xiaoting, and Just This.
Participants from the Greater China region range from ordinary individuals who have come to a distant land with dreams of K-POP to those with prior K-POP experience and individuals with unique traits. Expectations are high for the 80 contestants from 'Planet C' to impress global star creators with their distinct charm.
'BOYS 2 PLANET' features 160 boys from K PLANET (Korea) and C PLANET (Greater China) who meet on a single planet and journey towards the 'Sun'. If Korean participants like Kim Gun-woo opened the previous day's broadcast, this time participants from the Greater China region will take the stage.
At the production presentation of 'BOYS 2 PLANET' held on the morning of the 16th at The Saint in Guro-gu, Seoul, CP Kim Shin-young noted, "There were many participants from the Greater China region during Season 1 of 'BOYS PLANET'. However, since it was conducted in a Korean program, the friends we saw during the judging phase couldn't fully express their individuality and potential. "
He continued, "This time, I hope to focus on the friends from the Greater China region. When we planned Twin Planet, I thought it would be good to start from the Greater China region, so we established the current configuration. I kept in mind that 'BOYS PLANET' would expand in the future. I felt that when participants with different charms come together, it would create a greater synergy," explaining the reason for unifying it into one project.
However, issues arose from the start. A scandal regarding Kim Gun-woo, who was highlighted as the center visual of K PLANET, erupted. A whistleblower, referred to as A, claimed that Kim Gun-woo received excessive favoritism from high-ranking staff when he was a trainee at B Entertainment about two years ago and that he neglected or bullied staff and trainees using this advantage.
It was revealed that he also used profanity and harsh language during this process, and there were allegations of manipulating monthly evaluation scores. Trainees reported suffering from mental health issues such as panic disorders, depression, and anxiety disorders due to this, with some seeking psychiatric treatment and medication, setting the online community abuzz.
With the controversy erupting just before the first broadcast, Mnet is currently verifying the facts regarding the Kim Gun-woo scandal. In this situation, participants from 'Planet C' have completed their preparations to meet viewers. Attention is drawn to whether they can successfully finish the first broadcast without any issues.
