The group NCT DREAM, belonging to SME, has released a commentary video interpreting their fifth studio album's universe.
The 'NCT DREAM [Go Back To The Future] Story Universe Commentary', released on the NCT DREAM YouTube channel on 17th at 8 p.m., is content where the members directly introduce the 'time travel' universe of their fifth studio album, enhancing the immersion in the album.
NCT DREAM noted, "This album is themed around 'time travel', capturing the journey between the past, present, and future, and I think fans will find the concept of 'time travel' interesting." They added that through the title track 'BTTF' and the music video for 'CHILLER', they highlighted key narratives and points that fans might be curious about, adding fun to the storyline.
Regarding the music video for the title track 'BTTF', the members explained, "We embark on a time travel journey to revisit happy moments from the past. We head to the venue for 'THE DREAM SHOW 4' in 2025, but upon arrival, we face a situation where the past has changed for unknown reasons." They elaborated, "We go back to the day before our debut on August 24, 2016, and leave a hoverboard next to the young boys, and that choice ultimately made NCT DREAM's debut possible."
They continued, "This music video naturally integrates the actual debut and growth process, playfully capturing the time paradox that suggests the current NCT DREAM might be an existence starting from the choices made in the future. Although it is based on the sci-fi genre of time travel, I wanted to express it lightly, conveying the message that all choices I do not wish to change, as well as the future, are ones we create ourselves," emphasizing the symbolism and significance of the storyline.
Regarding the 'CHILLER' music video, NCT DREAM stated, "It is a side story to 'BTTF', returning to the 'absolute present'. With a hoverboard hideout floating in the sky, we captured a cool and relaxed attitude. The reason for choosing 'absolute present' at the end of time travel was the idea of enjoying who I am now without being obsessed with the past," adding that they wanted to express the confidence that the current NCT DREAM is the most vivid and shining existence along with that attitude.
Lastly, the members mentioned, "As 'storytellers', NCT DREAM, we think you will enjoy more by watching the overall story of the album along with the music video and the performance of the title track. Just like when you watch a good movie, you can find new elements and interesting details by watching it multiple times, and we believe this music video offers that. After watching the storyline interpretation video and various activities, when you watch the music video again, you will feel a different charm," they added.
NCT DREAM's fifth studio album 'Go Back To The Future' depicts the journey of the seven members who embark on a time travel quest to find the most brilliant 'me', featuring a total of 9 songs in various genres, including the double title tracks 'BTTF' and 'CHILLER', and is receiving much love.
NCT DREAM will perform the title track 'CHILLER' on KBS 2TV's 'Music Bank' today (18th) at 8 p.m.
