As nationwide heavy rains cause damage, stars from the entertainment industry extended their helping hands to the victims of the flooding.
On the 18th, according to the Korea Meteorological Administration, the rainfall recorded in Gwangju on the previous day (17th) was 426.4 mm, the highest amount since the meteorological observations began in 1939.
Additionally, heavy rains occurred in Jeollanam-do, with Naju at 378 mm, Damyang at 371.5 mm, Hampyeong Wolya at 321.5 mm, Hwasun Baegya at 304 mm, Jangseong at 290 mm, Mu-an Haeje at 273.5 mm, Gwangyang Baegunsan at 251.5 mm, Sinan Jido at 242.5 mm, Suncheon at 219.9 mm, Gurye at 198.5 mm, and Mokpo at 100.7 mm. Damage continued in areas outside Jeollanam-do such as Chungcheongnam-do and Gyeongsangnam-do.
As a result, damage occurred, including the flooding of dwellings and stores, along with some roads being washed away or damaged. Due to the flooding, operations on some sections of Gwangju Line 1 of the city subway were halted, and the Korea Railroad Corporation (KORAIL) also suspended all general and high-speed train services in the southern region for recovery work.
After news of damage from the heavy rains emerged, the first to step forward was actress Lee Hye-young. On the 18th, Lee Hye-young donated 20 million won to the Hope Bridge National Disaster Relief Association, saying, "Hearing the sad news of those affected by the heavy rain, my heart felt heavy. I wanted to help in any way I could." She added, "I sincerely hope that the rain stops soon and that the residents of the affected areas can return to their peaceful daily lives."
Next up was the 'Yoo-nim' Yoo Jae-suk. Yoo Jae-suk donated 50 million won to help the victims, stating, "Hearing the unfortunate news of those affected by the heavy rain weighed heavily on my heart," and he remarked, "I hope the damage does not increase further." Yoo Jae-suk has consistently donated through Hope Bridge every time various disasters, such as wildfires, floods, and earthquakes, occur.
On the same day, actor Yim Si-wan also donated 50 million won to help the flood victims, saying, "I hope that this small effort can be a source of strength for neighbors who have lost their homes due to the pouring rain," and he added, "I hope the rain stops soon and that recovery can happen."
'Natural Person' Lee Seung-yoon also donated 10 million won to help the neighbors affected by the floods. Lee Seung-yoon expressed, "I contributed this small amount with the hope that the affected neighbors can regain their smiles," and he commented, "I wish that this situation passes without further damage."
