The prosecution sought a one-year prison sentence for two women indicted for allegedly blackmailing YouTuber Tzuyang.
On the 18th, the prosecution requested this during the deliberation of the joint extortion case against a woman in her 30s, referred to as A, and a woman in her 20s, referred to as B, at the Seoul Central District Court, presided over by Judge Koo Chang-kyu.
On this day, the prosecution noted that the amount extorted was significant and the crime was serious; however, both women confessed to the entirety of their crimes and expressed remorse, and they had reached a settlement with the victim, so they requested a one-year prison sentence for each.
The defense lawyer for the two women stated, "It was merely an impulsive crime, and there appears to have been no intent to harm the victim from the outset. The defendants are truly remorseful, so we ask for leniency."
During the final statement, the woman in her 30s, referred to as A, appealed, saying, "I fully acknowledge the charges and want to apologize to the victim," while the woman in her 20s, referred to as B, reportedly sought forgiveness, stating, "I deeply regret my actions and will not engage in such conduct again."
The court has decided to proceed with the sentencing on the 20th of next month.
Previously, Tzuyang revealed on her YouTube channel last July, "Three years ago, the representative of my former agency brought up two women (A and B) and said, 'They are blackmailing me.' They suggested that I pay to silence them, and reluctantly, the producer went out to meet the two and ended up paying them 216 million won over two years."
The two women are accused of blackmailing Tzuyang and extorting 216 million won from the YouTube channel's producer from June 2021 to November 2022.
Meanwhile, YouTuber Karacula, who was involved in Tzuyang's blackmail case and received a suspended sentence, recently announced her return after a period of reflection.
Karacula uploaded a new video to her YouTube channel on the 27th of last month, stating, "As a performer, I forgot my duty and disappointed my true audience. I deeply regret this and will take responsibility through my actions rather than words going forward," and she expressed a desire to start anew with a mindset of reflection and responsibility. She changed her existing channel name to 'Karacula Animal Rescue' and plans to continue her activities related to rescuing and protecting stray animals. Revenue generation is currently suspended, and there are no plans to open a sponsorship account. 'I will fully take responsibility for all past misdeeds and move forward quietly,' she said.
At that time, Karacula sparked controversy when it was revealed that in August of last year, through a YouTube channel, she disclosed that some content creators had formed a group called the 'Lecca Alliance' to blackmail YouTuber Tzuyang using her past to demand money. Karacula was charged with aiding and abetting blackmail and received a one-year prison sentence with a three-year suspended sentence in February.
