Jang Woo-young of 'AtStyle' expressed his unique affection for JYP.
Recently, Jang Woo-young returned as a solo artist with his new song 'Simple Dance,' breaking a long silence. He infused a sense of ease into the tense K-pop scene with his simple yet deadly charm, showcasing the essence of 'simple is best.'
Regarding this solo comeback work, which he presented after a hiatus of 7 years and 5 months since 2018's 'Duck,' he shared with 'AtStyle,' "In fact, I played this song for the company 5 years ago, but I was cleanly rejected. However, for 5 years, I consistently pushed this song."
On why he didn't give up on this song despite being rejected several times by the company, he confessed, "I'm quick to agree, and I don't particularly like to clash with anyone, but in reality, I am 'answer all' (laughs). In the end, I think the company felt, 'If Jang Woo-young doesn't get this song, he will never return,' so they finally granted permission."
As Jang Woo-young is known as 'the son born from the combination of JYP's joints and vocal cords,' what was Park Jin-young's reaction to this comeback? He said, "In fact, Jinyoung hyung was very disappointed. He wanted me to dance more trendily and intensely."
Jang Woo-young conveyed his sincerity, saying, "I didn't want to return with a loud proclamation of, 'Alright everyone, I'm finally back!' Rather than chasing trends or trying to do grand music, I simply wanted to make music that is true to who I am now."
He also expressed admiration for Park Jin-young's recent Waterbomb stage, stating, "This year's Waterbomb was totally brought back to life by Jinyoung hyung. It's truly admirable that he maintains that kind of energy and stamina."
When asked whether he had ever considered other options after spending 20 years with JYP, he said, "Not once. My life as a singer has always been with JYP, and as much as the company has believed in me, I have also trusted the company."
He also conveyed good news about the full comeback of 2PM, which fans are most curious about. "The day will come soon for 2PM. It's quite close. Soon, I'll greet you with a good timing," he raised expectations.
When asked about his current status, Jang Woo-young said, "I'm still in a sleeping phase. It must be around 5 a.m. to 6 a.m. My prime hasn't even started yet," expressing his aspirations for the future.
Meanwhile, more of Jang Woo-young's photoshoot and candid interview, filling sixteen pages, can be found in the August issue of AtStyle.
