Actor Kwon Oh-jung opened up about his time during the hiatus.
Recently on the YouTube channel 'Gyeonggi Ilbo', a video titled "Many people think he's not acting..." was released.
In the video, Kwon Oh-jung shared, "I took a break for 4 to 5 years starting in 2020. I focused on family for a few years. Since the end of last year, I have been preparing to return to work at the office and am working hard to come back. Of course, just because I work hard doesn't mean opportunities will keep coming; I'm just preparing."
He further explained, "Mainly, I have some responsibilities for my son. He needs to visit the hospital, and I have to pick him up when necessary. I am doing a lot of household chores. Now, I am trying to get back to work and observing the market trends, as well as figuring out what young people like."
He also spoke about his hiatus. Kwon Oh-jung revealed, "With the arrival of COVID-19, in a way, our family faced difficulties. My wife is healthy and very future-oriented, but I am not. Moreover, living as the spouse of a celebrity is extremely difficult. It may seem nice from the outside, but it can be a tough situation. Our family has endured and it has become challenging."
He then said, "That's when I realized. I needed to cut ties with various people and stop drinking, which I used to enjoy, and decided to fully commit to my family, dedicating about four years to them. I am still fully committed now, and my family has become much more harmonious."
Additionally, Kwon Oh-jung mentioned, "It may seem that I am taking a break now, but I have a movie called 'Masai Cross' that was filmed 90% in Kenya. It is set to be released at the end of this year. I am planning to participate in dramas and variety shows as well. Many people misunderstand the reason for my break, thinking it is because of my child, but that is not the case. I would appreciate it if you could consider me for roles as I am eager to work hard."
Finally, regarding his goals, he said, "What parents care about most is their children. My son still doesn't have a treatment for his condition, which is incredibly rare. We often discuss this. Before I die, I hope a treatment is developed so that my child can live a more comfortable life."
Meanwhile, Kwon Oh-jung has been married since 1996 and has one son. Kwon Oh-jung has previously confessed that his son suffers from a developmental disorder that affects one in every 15 people worldwide, with one case in Korea.
