Actor Kim Sung-o has emerged as a key figure who shakes up the narrative within just 3 episodes of 'Low Life.'
Kim Sung-o played the role of Im Jeon-chul, a driver for Heungbaek Industries, in episodes 1-3 of the Disney+ original series 'Low Life,' which premiered on the 16th, taking responsibility for the tension of the work.
'Low Life' is a story of hardworking and diligent low-lifes who flock to seize a sunken treasure ship from 1977. The character played by Kim Sung-o, Im Jeon-chul, is the driver for Yang Jeong-suk (played by Lim Soo-jung), who holds the financial strings for the treasure hunt, leaving a heavy impression from his first appearance with a blank face and restrained demeanor.
In particular, Jeon-chul appears to be a loyal driver in front of Jeong-suk, but when facing Oh Kwan-seok (played by Ryu Seung-ryong) and his nephew Oh Hee-dong (played by Yang Se-jong), he reveals a completely different face, surprising everyone. During his first meeting with Hee-dong, he dominates the atmosphere with the line, "Did the lady ask you that?" increasing the tension of the drama while expressing raw emotions and hinting at his past through the scars etched on his body, accentuating the multifaceted nature of Jeon-chul.
The past between Jeon-chul and Jeong-suk is one of the biggest mysteries in the drama. After the passage of time, Jeon-chul, who was thought to be dead, appears again in front of Jeong-suk, shocking the audience and heightening expectations for future developments. This raises curiosity about how Jeon-chul came to work under Chairman Cheon of Heungbaek Industries and how the relationships between the characters will intertwine.
At the beginning of the drama, Kim Sung-o maintains emotional restraint and balances the center of the narrative, but as conflicts between the characters begin to reveal themselves, he expresses his volatile personality and emotions without hesitation, completing the multifaceted nature of Jeon-chul. Additionally, Kim Sung-o's signature expression acting, which captures the fine nuances of emotion, along with his deep and solid delivery of lines, provides viewers with a profound sense of immersion.
Amidst this, a scene arises where Kwan-seok, who embarks on the treasure hunt alongside Jeon-chul, asks the antique appraiser Song Sajang (played by Kim Jong-soo), "Is what Chairman Cheon said true? That Im Jeon-chul should be drowned," leaving doubts about Jeon-chul's life or death, further intensifying the story. Attention is focused on the complex relationships between the characters and how Kim Sung-o will shape the narrative and his role.
'Low Life' will be released two episodes weekly, consisting of a total of 11 episodes.
