The late actress Park Ji-ah showcased her talents in her final work, 'Salon de Holmes,' proving her acting skills as a "trustworthy actress."
Park Ji-ah delivered a remarkable performance as Choi Sun-ja in the ENA drama 'Salon de Holmes,' which concluded its 10th episode on the 15th.
'Salon de Holmes' is a comedic woman-centric action drama set in the Gwangseon Jugong APT., featuring four women—a former ace detective, an insurance tycoon, and the queen of part-timers—united as the problem solvers of their complex, punishing the apartment villains.
Park Ji-ah played the role of Choi Sun-ja, a passionate president of the residents' association, who is determined to protect the property values of the Gwangseon Jugong APT. Since the first episode, she has appeared with an air of elegance fitting for a residents' association president, exerting influence over every incident occurring within the APT. complex and resonating with viewers through her realistic performance.
Choi Sun-ja wandered around the APT. complex wearing a colorful outfit and pink-tinted glasses, showing off a fantastic chemistry with the residents, including Gong Mi-ri (Lee Si-young), Chu Kyung-ja (Jung Young-joo), and Jeon Ji-hyun (Nam Gi-ae), while bickering and providing delightful laughs in every episode.
Contrary to her goofy public persona, Choi Sun-ja was mercilessly harsh with her son Tae-hoon (Jang Jae-ho), unleashing scathing criticism and punishment. She fiercely struggled with her son, who could not be controlled according to her wishes, and eventually, as he fell from the status of a perpetrator to a murderer, she portrayed a maddening obsession with her son through a haunting performance, excelling in her role as a catalyst in her final work.
Debuting in the 2002 film 'Coastline,' Park Ji-ah boasted her presence as a "great actress" by appearing in numerous works like 'Gidam,' 'Gonjiam,' 'Masquerade,' and 'The Good Wife.' She passed away last September after battling a stroke, becoming a star in the sky.
Notably, in the 2022-2023 Netflix series 'The Glory,' she delivered a compelling performance as Jung Mi-hee, mother of Moon Dong-eun (Song Hye-kyo), living a life consumed by nightlife while neglecting her child's school violence issues, earning attention as a scene-stealer with her vivid depiction of a character struggling with alcoholism.
In another posthumous work, the Netflix series 'Dear Hongrang,' released in May, she portrayed the shaman Gwigokja, who blindly trusts Min Yeon (Uhm Ji-won), delivering a captivating performance. She delicately expressed the deep grudge and anger of Gwigokja, who had secretly sharpened her knife of vengeance against the Min family that killed her family, drawing viewers into her charismatic portrayal.
The production team recently released a tribute video for Park Ji-ah. The video showcased her acting career, capturing her dedication to her craft until the very end. They praised her as "an actress who continuously worked hard with a humble demeanor for every fleeting moment," saying, "We will cherish and remember that name, who laughed and cried with us on set."
