The behind-the-scenes story of the cat character 'Aeyoung-i', which will captivate the audience as the mascot of the movie 'My Daughter is a Zombie', has been revealed.
The cat character 'Aeyoung-i' from the movie 'My Daughter is a Zombie' (directed by Phil Kamsung, distributed by NEW, produced by Studio N), which is gaining attention as the top anticipated movie for the summer theater season, is creating a buzz. 'My Daughter is a Zombie' is a comic drama about a doting father who enters top-secret training to protect his daughter who has become the last remaining zombie in the world.
'Aeyoung-i', who is considered the mascot in the original webtoon, is the pet cat of 'Jung-hwan' (Jo Jung-seok) and 'Soo-ah' (Choi Yu-ri), and her indifferent yet chic expression is her trademark. The independent cat, known for her strong personality, is harder to train compared to dogs, making the task of bringing 'Aeyoung-i' to life a significant challenge for the production team. Rather than a simple anthropomorphism, the team searched the country to find a cat resembling 'Aeyoung-i', ultimately holding auditions for four cats.
After the so-called 'fur-flying audition', the cat that confidently secured the leading role was Geumdong-i. While other cats were busy hiding or fleeing as soon as they entered the audition room, Geumdong-i showed boldness and ease, lying down as if she were at home. Director Phil Kamsung immediately cast Geumdong-i upon seeing her comfortably accepting hugs from others, saying, 'You are 'Aeyoung-i'!'
Moreover, Geumdong-i boasted a remarkable resemblance to the original 'Aeyoung-i', with a gaze that suggested she understood everything and a 'S' shaped mouth. She amazed the production team and actors with unexpected concentration and acting skills on set. Thanks to Geumdong-i, who powered through filming with just one bite of 'Churu', many scenes initially planned to be created with CGI were converted to actual filming. Director Phil Kamsung remarked with a smile, 'If it weren't for Geumdong-i, we would still be filming,' indicating that she was a hidden protagonist who contributed to both time-saving and quality.
The live-action performance of 'Kim Aeyoung', which will disarm people's hearts, can be seen through the movie 'My Daughter is a Zombie' on July 30.
