The scene of Lee Bo-young, Lee Min-ki, and Kang Ki-young holding a tense three-way confrontation amidst suspicion has been captured.
The new MBC Friday-Saturday drama 'Merry Kills People,' which will first air on August 1 (written by Lee Soo-a, directed by Park Jun-woo), is a suspense drama about a doctor who helps terminally ill patients die and a detective who tracks them.
In 'Merry Kills People,' Lee Bo-young plays the role of Woo So-jung, an emergency medicine doctor who assists in dying at the boundary between life and death, while Lee Min-ki portrays Jo Hyun-woo, a terminal brain tumor patient for whom chemotherapy and radiation treatment are ineffective and surgery is impossible. Kang Ki-young transforms into Choi Dae-hyun, a friend who secretly loves Woo So-jung (played by Lee Bo-young) and fluctuates between warmth and seriousness, raising profound questions about the meaning of assisted dying.
In connection with this, Lee Bo-young, Lee Min-ki, and Kang Ki-young heighten the tension during their first face-to-face meeting. In the drama, Woo So-jung and Choi Dae-hyun (played by Kang Ki-young) sit on a bench waiting for someone, as Jo Hyun-woo (played by Lee Min-ki) approaches on a motorcycle. After stopping the motorcycle and removing his helmet, Jo Hyun-woo walks up to Woo So-jung and Choi Dae-hyun, showing an indifferent yet complex expression. Woo So-jung carefully speaks to Jo Hyun-woo with a guarded look in her eyes, while Choi Dae-hyun greets him in a cheerful tone with an inscrutable smile. With a doctor who assists in dying, an accomplice, and a terminally ill patient who has made a choice regarding death all gathered together, attention is drawn to what kind of turmoil may arise in the future.
Meanwhile, Lee Bo-young reminisced about her first acting chemistry with Lee Min-ki and Kang Ki-young, saying, "The acting chemistry was great. We filmed very enjoyably with each actor." Lee Min-ki remarked, "I think I was comfortable because I was the youngest," adding, "Both of you are such skilled actors, so I also worked hard," explaining the perfect chemistry of the three. Kang Ki-young expressed his special feelings about his first project with Lee Bo-young and Lee Min-ki, stating, "Meeting seniors and colleagues I have seen a lot in the media and matching their breaths is always exciting." He further shared, "It was a happy moment not only captured on camera but also off-camera."
The production team noted, "The three-way confrontation between Lee Bo-young, Lee Min-ki, and Kang Ki-young is the starting point of the shocking story in 'Merry Kills People'." They urged, "Please look forward to 'Merry Kills People,' which will sweep along with a twist that will completely change the fate of these three characters."
'Merry Kills People' is drawing attention with the collaboration of director Park Jun-woo, who has presented a sensuous mise-en-scène and delicate emotional lines in 'Taxi Driver' and 'Crash'; writer Lee Soo-a, who has completed narratives full of unique character play in films such as 'The Laws of Attraction' and 'My Special Brother', and dramas including 'Unemployment Romance'; and actors Lee Bo-young, Lee Min-ki, Kang Ki-young, Baek Hyun-jin, Kwon Hae-hyo, Kim Tae-woo, and Seo Young-hee, who possess "excellent acting skills". The drama will first air on Friday, August 1, at 10 p.m.
