(The Korea Popular Music Performance Industry Association) is taking the lead in the development of the popular music performance industry.
The Korea Popular Music Performance Industry Association (hereinafter referred to as 'Eumgonghyup') announced it will hold a seminar on July 22 (Tuesday) at 2 p.m. at the SOMA Museum of Art in Olympic Park, Songpa District, Seoul, for the development of the popular music performance industry.
This seminar serves as a venue for discussions aimed at establishing a sustainable growth foundation for the popular music performance industry following the inauguration of the new government, collecting practical opinions from the performance field, and seeking policy alternatives together. The new government has announced cultural policy pledges centered around the establishment of large cultural infrastructure, including 'the creation of a large multi-purpose arena with a capacity of 50,000 seats' and 'the establishment of medium and small-sized venues for promising K-POP artists domestically and internationally.' As a result, there is growing hope and interest within the performance industry, which is struggling with a lack of venues.
The seminar will be held for a total of 90 minutes and will include presentations, panel discussions, open discussions, and Q&A in a participatory format, starting with a welcome speech by the association president Lee Jong-hyun, followed by vice president Ko Gi-ho introducing attendees and guiding the discussion format as the moderator.
The first session will be themed 'Can the lack of performance venues in Seoul and large performance venues in the metropolitan area be a solution?' and will feature a presentation by Choi Yoon-soon, a director at Live Nation Korea. This presentation will address the reality of inadequate performance infrastructure in Seoul, highlighting the situation where performances must inevitably be moved to the outskirts of the metropolitan area or other regions, and propose starting points for discussions on policy solutions.
Following the panel discussion, representatives from ▲ Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism ▲ Goyang City Culture and Arts Division ▲ Herald Corporation reporter Seo Byeong-ki ▲ the Eumgonghyup member company will share various perspectives on issues and improvement directions experienced in the performance field.
The second session will be an open discussion involving each panel under the theme 'What is needed for the current popular music performance industry?'
Eumgonghyup president Lee Jong-hyun noted, "This seminar is a significant opportunity for industry practitioners to voice their opinions and discuss policy alternatives at a time of change with the inauguration of the new government," and added, "The association intends to continue facilitating a forum where the public and authorities can work together to move beyond mere discourse to bring about practical change." Eumgonghyup plans to hold subsequent seminars based on the discussions from this seminar and utilize the content for discussions on reforming related systems.
Meanwhile, the Korea Popular Music Performance Industry Association is a registered corporation under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism that consists of over 40 event planning companies that organize and oversee various popular music performances, including concerts, festivals, world tours, and domestic performances.
