"The Great Guide 2" producer Woo Tak-woo expressed confidence in Park Myung-soo's true value.
The MBC Every1 entertainment program "The Great Guide 2" concluded its broadcast with the 14th episode aired on the 15th. "The Great Guide" is a reality travel program where foreigners residing in Korea for several years become guides and inform travelers visiting their home country about spots only locals know. In this season 2, original members comedian Park Myung-soo and broadcaster Kim Dae-ho, followed by actor Choi Daniel and singer Lee Mujin, showcased their talents while traveling between Rwanda in Africa and Jordan in West Asia. Producer Woo Tak-woo, who directed "The Great Guide 2," discussed the program.
"When we first started planning at the end of last year, I wondered if this time would come, but time seemed to pass so quickly," said producer Woo Tak-woo, adding, "I personally had a great time, and because it was my first directing project, it was an unforgettable experience," reflecting on the conclusion of "The Great Guide 2."
In particular, "The Great Guide 2" brought great laughter with a combination of Park Myung-soo, Kim Dae-ho, Choi Daniel, and Lee Mujin that is rarely seen. Regarding this new member configuration, producer Woo Tak-woo stated, "The initial thought was to combine members who have strong characters but could create 'brotherly chemistry' when together."
He noted, "With Myung-soo and Dae-ho, who had been active since the last season, plus the warm-hearted senior Daniel joining, I was sure that the brotherly chemistry would explode," adding, "With Mujin coming in as the youngest member, it became complete. In fact, during our last trip to Jordan, seeing the brothers joking and laughing at each other, regardless of whether there was a camera or not, made me feel proud."
Could it be that the chemistry among the cast granted them confidence? Right after the first broadcast of "The Great Guide 2," Park Myung-soo revealed on his KBS radio show "Park Myung-soo's Radio Show" that "the first broadcast performance was below expectations." Despite having ranked first in buzz among programs airing at the same time, it was a statement that ironically revealed his confident attitude. In reality, "The Great Guide 2" showed decent performance ratings around 1% on cable TV afterward.
In this regard, producer Woo Tak-woo shared, "After returning from the first country, Rwanda, we had a really great time. It's true that both the cast and crew had high expectations, so we felt disappointed about the initial results." He continued, "However, I believed that as we progressed, viewers would recognize the true value of the fun we felt ourselves. It would have been better if we had concluded with even better results, but I think of this "The Great Guide 2" as a new starting point for the series and plan to create even more enjoyable content in the future."
Additionally, regarding the interest in the first broadcast of "The Great Guide 2," he smiled, stating, "The 'freshly declared' former announcer Kim Dae-ho, comedian Park Myung-soo, who proved his worth again in his 22nd prime, and actor Choi Daniel, who has reborn with a humorous slant. It seems that the combination of individuals with high buzz each contributed to increasing the show's appeal. Also, the unfamiliar travel destination 'Rwanda' seems to have played a part. There was a memorable response that 'the combination of contrasting characters oddly fits well.'"
