The young creative group Play Q Company (CEO An Tae-gyu) will present its eighth original performance, the play 'Obi Irak,' from the 16th to the 20th at the Code Art Hall in Daehakro, Seoul.
The title 'Obi Irak,' which conveys the meaning 'five sad reasons for love, two joyful reasons for love,' is derived from a Korean proverb meaning 'when the crow flies, the pear drops,' starting from the symbol of coincidence and humorously unraveling misunderstandings and tricks of fate related to love.
The central plot revolves around 'Obi,' who believes love is fate, and 'Irak,' who argues that fate is something one creates. The process of two people with different views on love working together to write a tumultuous love manual is engagingly depicted.
The direction is handled by Park Min-kyu, and a lineup of talented actors, including Yang Do-hee, Do-hee, Tae-i, Park Sun-woo, Choi Ji-soo, and Maeng Jun-yeol, has been assembled.
Play Q Company, which produced the performance, is a comprehensive creative group that has consistently created diverse genres of content, including plays, musicals, and performances, since its founding in 2015. With the motto 'passion over experience,' it is gaining attention as a young production company leading the next generation of the theater scene by collaborating with passionate artists.
Starting with the musical 'Eoggeugsa,' it has been exporting performances abroad every year through collaborations with local entertainment in Japan, and in 2022, it garnered attention by staging the play 'A First Class' on the West End, showcasing the possibilities of Korean performances to the world.
'Obi Irak' is the eighth piece in Play Q Company's original play series, expected to be a stage condensed with the creative capabilities accumulated by the team over a long period. Characterized by its intimate theater stage and a composition that directly engages with the audience, it evokes different emotions in each performance through multi-layered dialogues and direction.
In particular, this performance will also engage in sharing activities by providing invitation tickets to marginalized youth in collaboration with local youth centers, including the Jung-gu Youth Center and the Eunpyeong Youth Center. It is significant in breaking down the barriers for culturally marginalized groups as part of Play Q Company's ongoing social contribution activities.
The performances will be held from the 16th to the 20th, with one performance at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday, and two performances at 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, totaling 8 performances. Reservations can be made through online booking sites.
