Musical actress Choi Jung-won recalled the time of her mother's passing.
On the 15th broadcast of KBS1's 'Morning Yard,' musical 'Mamma Mia!' leading actress Choi Jung-won and f(x)'s Luna appeared as guests.
In the show, Choi Jung-won and Luna, who played a mother-daughter duo, shared stories about their real mothers. When Choi Jung-won mentioned that her mother passed away beauty sleep, she said, "The day before, my mother was having issues with her phone while playing Go-stop these days. It's been about 5 years since I got her a new one, so I said, 'I'll really replace it.' I got her a new phone the day before, and I saw her face and had a meal with her that day. The next day, I received a call while I was in Changwon for the 'Chicago' performance, and I couldn't believe it. She was so healthy."
He noted, "After shows, it had always been my routine to drink beer or wine with my mother. We would talk about performances, and if my mother had green pancakes ready, we would talk for an hour until she fell asleep. I always tell her, 'If I die, you have to perform on the day of the show. That's why I'm performing.' So jokingly, I said, 'I will really perform.'"
He continued, "When my daughter occasionally got sick, my mother would call and say, 'You can't just stop the performance because the baby has a fever, so don't call on performance days.' No matter how much I want to not care, it still weighs on me, and I can't skip performances just because my child got hurt, so I've often asked my mother for help. On days when my kid fell off the desk and broke a tooth, my mother would say, 'Don't call Jung-won.' She even personally took her to the dentist."
However, she expressed, "That day, since my mother lived with me all my life, it felt like my body suddenly went numb." She did not attend the 'Chicago' performance on the day of her mother's funeral. She added, "The next day, there was no substitute actor for the 'Hadestown' production. Everyone was in performances. So I held a one-day funeral in Seoul and couldn't see my mother during the coffin ceremony. I returned to Busan and performed twice while crying so much that my voice was gone until morning. But during the performance, my body felt as light as a bird, and I performed so well. And then I finished the performance successfully."
In response, Lee Kwang-ki sighed, "Your mother was with you," and Choi Jung-won confirmed, "Yes. The sensation I felt on stage that day still lingers in my mind. My body felt so light, and it seems like my condition improved a bit since that day." She added, "I didn't cry, but the performance team and fellow actors, upon hearing the news, encouraged me, saying that I managed to perform without being overcome by emotions, even though I usually cry a lot."
