"Culinary Class Wars" Lee Soon-sil and "Izakaya" Chef Kim Mi-ryeong engaged in fierce competition.
On the broadcast of KBS2's "Boss's Ears Are Donkey Ears" on the 13th, Lee Soon-sil visited Chef Kim Mi-ryeong's restaurant to learn about course cuisine.
Lee Soon-sil said, "The Ministry of Unification is holding a North Korean food event, and they serve courses one at a time. I've never experienced course cuisine in North Korea, so I came here to learn." After arriving at the restaurant and greeting, Lee asked, "Can I see the kitchen first?" Park Myung-soo, watching this, pointed out, "Isn't it rude to look into someone else's kitchen as soon as you arrive?" In response, Lee explained, "You can see the person working by looking at the kitchen."
Izakaya pointed out, "You need to be prepared. You can't enter our kitchen with this hairstyle," and said, "I was shocked when you came in. I couldn't imagine someone coming to learn with a hairstyle like this." He suggested, "At least tie your hair up," and tied her hair up using a hair net.
Later, Izakaya had Lee Soon-sil help with ingredient preparation, but she drew criticism for frequently picking at the food. Moreover, unable to even cut evenly, Izakaya pointed out, "You are cooking, right? It seems like you came just to hang out, not to learn," and said about her slow pace, "At this rate, when will you finish? You need to hurry. I'll do it all, so just stay out of the way."
In response, Lee Soon-sil said, "I can do this too. Watching her, it seems like she does it just like me," and expressed her dissatisfaction, saying, "She appeared to be a strong woman trying to dominate me in some way. It felt a bit uncomfortable; the look in her eyes was threatening, and it felt hard to breathe." Then Kim Sook noted, "If we're talking about food, Chef Izakaya has about 40 years of experience. She inherited her mother's cooking style, so she is an incredible veteran," to which Lee Soon-sil acknowledged, "Based on her hand movements, she really is a veteran."
When Izakaya asked, "You must be busy after 'Culinary Class Wars'?" Lee replied, "It's the same now as it was then. I only receive the same number of requests. So, I haven't gotten particularly busier. I serve around 20 people a day. I have a main restaurant separate from this. There, during lunchtime, I prepare noodles for over 1000 people," drawing admiration.
Having run a restaurant for over 40 years, Lee said he became a promotional ambassador for Dongdaemun District. Lee Soon-sil said, "I've seen you a lot on TV," to which Izakaya replied, "I'm trying to participate in programs that can promote Korean cuisine." Lee Soon-sil countered, "We are doing it already," and Izakaya replied, "I am doing it now too," leading Lee Soon-sil to ask, "Which celebrity are you talking about?"
Izakaya replied, "I know a lot. I know Jung Ji-sun very well," and Lee Soon-sil stated, "I know someone even stronger than Jung Ji-sun," mentioning, "You know Lee Kyung-kyu, you know Byun Jin-sup, and Kim Sook, Jun Hyun-moo, and Park Myung-soo" while referring to her connections from "Culinary Class Wars." To this, Izakaya revealed, "Ms. Kim Sook and I are friends," leading Lee Soon-sil to boast, "Choi Soo-jong calls me 'older sister.' Nam Hee-seok also calls me 'older brother.' I was invited to Kim Jong-min's wedding, but I couldn't go because I was busy."
Moreover, Lee Soon-sil, while observing the small servings of course cuisine, expressed her displeasure, saying, "We serve at least 5 or 6 side dishes piled up in bowls like this for a meal, but seeing such a small portion here, I wonder if I can even feel full with this. Who is going to apply that to their nose?" When she looked at the abalone, she demanded, "I want it whole," to which Izakaya coldly responded, "It's normally served cut." Although Izakaya added another piece, saying, "There are extras for you," Lee Soon-sil asked, "Can I have one more piece of abalone?" drawing discontent.
Izakaya drew a line, saying, "You came to learn from me today. It's not just about eating one dish; you'll be eating various dishes in order as I serve them. You won't be able to eat everything since there will be a lot coming out behind." Even after that, Lee Soon-sil continued to eye the food from the next table and gradually became full, while Jun Hyun-moo commented, "Didn't you say in the beginning that you weren't getting much?" To this, Lee Soon-sil regrettably said, "I thought I would manage to eat it all at first, but it kept coming out so fast that I couldn't keep up."
After the course meal experience, Park Myung-soo said, "Did you have a great time? You must have learned a lot, right? It was really worth it." Lee Soon-sil replied, "I also learned about the cooking skills and speed of that person," to which Kim Sook questioned, "But it seemed only like you were eating." In response, Lee Soon-sil clarified, "Even though it looks like I was just eating, who knows how to serve it all? I saved everything in my mind."
