Yang Se-hyung candidly revealed why he failed the traditional Korean food chef certification exam on 'Stars' Top Recipe at Fun-Staurant.'
In the episode broadcast on the 11th of KBS 2TV's entertainment program 'Stars' Top Recipe at Fun-Staurant' (hereafter 'Fun-Staurant'), Lee Sang-woo invited his gourmet friend Yang Se-hyung.
That day, Lee Sang-woo explained the reason for inviting Yang Se-hyung, noting, "You cook well and are a gourmet. I wanted to hear from you if my cooking skills are acceptable."
Lee Sang-woo, fully equipped with a helmet, began cooking grilled pork belly using a briquette grill. He said, "The sauce is important, and this is my secret sauce. I'm going to let you try two different flavors," which piqued curiosity.
The first secret sauce was liquefied anchovy sauce. Lee Sang-woo recounted, "My younger brother was stationed on Baengnyeongdo Island during his Marine Corps service and used liquefied anchovy sauce on pork belly. Twenty years ago, he ate it with the sauce and said it was delicious. He returned from service carrying a bottle of it. I didn't pay much attention to it then, but after 20 years, the memory came back, so I thought I'd give it a try."
After tasting the pork belly coated with liquefied anchovy sauce, Yang Se-hyung praised, "It's delicious. Really delicious. It feels like there are not just liquefied anchovies in the seasoning sauce, but five or six other ingredients added. The fish sauce neutralizes the rich taste of the meat."
The second secret sauce was ssamjang sauce. In the process, Lee Sang-woo showcased his 'Jeong Seong-gwang' characteristics by repeatedly applying the sauce while grilling. Yang Se-hyung, unable to hold back, jokingly said, "I feel like I'm about to curse right now," which elicited laughter.
Meanwhile, Lee Sang-woo asked, "Don't you have a traditional Korean food certification?" Yang Se-hyung replied, "I took the traditional Korean food chef exam twice and failed both times." Surprised, Lee Sang-woo inquired, "I thought you had the certification and wanted to verify it; why did you fail?"
Yang Se-hyung confessed, "I guess that's skill as well. The first time, I made everything but dropped the food, and the second time, I thought I was 100% going to pass but had extra time left and ended up getting caught helping my mother at the same cooking academy, resulting in a disqualification."
Entering the house, Yang Se-hyung presented a bouquet to Kim So-yeon, who smiled brightly, saying, "The flowers are so beautiful." Later, Lee Sang-woo showcased a unique green onion tempura and water kimchi salmon steak for Yang Se-hyung, who reciprocated by making gochujang dumplings and ssamjang dumplings.
