Choo Young-Woo of 'Gyeonwoo and the Fairy' is possessed by an evil spirit.
Choo Young-Woo maximized the tension with a portrayal of possession in the cable channel tvN's Monday-Tuesday drama 'Gyeonwoo and the Fairy' (written by Yang Ji-hoon, directed by Kim Yong-wan), which aired on the 8th.
In the drama, Choo Young-Woo's character, Bae Gyeonwoo, closed his heart after learning that Park Seong-a (played by Cho Yi-hyun) was a shaman. Having seen several shamans who inflated his false hopes with shallow words and actions, he regarded them as frauds. Bae Gyeonwoo fell into despair upon discovering that the shaman, Yeomhwa (played by Choo Ja-hyun), hired by his family had cast a curse on his grandmother. In order to cleanse the curse, Bae Gyeonwoo ultimately burned a photo of his grandmother smiling.
Like rain gradually soaking through clothes, Bae Gyeonwoo permeated into Park Seong-a. He came to realize that every incomprehensible action was to protect himself. While looking for an opportunity to apologize, Bae Gyeonwoo visited an abandoned house and became possessed by an evil spirit, losing his physical body in the process. The evil spirit resembling Bae Gyeonwoo greeted the mirror by saying, "Hello, shaman?" which sent chills down the spine.
In this manner, Choo Young-Woo escalated the immersion from a high school student, Bae Gyeonwoo, who set up defenses to protect others from his misfortune, to a sudden transformation into an evil spirit with a chilling gaze and disturbing expression. There is significant interest in what developments the short yet deadly transformation into the evil spirit will bring forth.
In particular, Choo Young-Woo impressed audiences with a new face he had never shown before with a possessed performance. Through his vibrant portrayal of the possessed character, he further expanded his broad spectrum. He fully delivered the emotional rollercoaster of Bae Gyeonwoo to the viewers, proving his solid acting skills accumulated over time.
Immediately after the broadcast, viewers praised Choo Young-Woo's striking transformation in the ending scene, saying things like, "It seems like the beginning of Act 2," "It feels like reality has been 'suspended'," "The atmosphere is completely different when he is possessed," "He is a professional actor who excels at playing two roles in one," and "While I'm worried about Gyeonwoo, I look forward to Choo Young-Woo's portrayal of him."
From high school student to an evil spirit, Choo Young-Woo's activities showcasing diverse acting variations can be seen every Monday and Tuesday at 8:50 p.m. on 'Gyeonwoo and the Fairy.'
