Pioneering mukbang YouTuber Banz (real name Jeong Man-soo) announced a fresh start after deleting his YouTube channel with 2.05 million subscribers.
On the 7th, Banz opened a new channel titled 'Banz BANZZ' and released the first video with the title, "I deleted the 2.05 million channel."
The video captures the journey from his first jumbo ramen mukbang uploaded on November 26, 2013, to just before the channel's deletion. Reflecting on the first video, filmed by requesting help from restaurant staff without a tripod, Banz candidly shared, "If I could go back, I think I would have worked harder."
Earlier, on June 28, Banz faced comedian Yoon Hyung-bin (46) in a special event match at the Jangchung Gymnasium in Seoul, losing by TKO just 1 minute and 42 seconds into the first round. This bout occurred at Banz's request, and Yoon Hyung-bin wanted to show sincerity rather than merely compete, setting the condition that Banz would delete his channel if he lost.
As he deleted the channel, Banz noted, "Looking back at all the videos felt like the end of a vacation. There was an indescribable sense of regret and an emotion like parting with someone you love," as he became teary-eyed. The channel, which had recorded over 3,300 videos and 2.05 million subscribers, thus disappeared.
However, the end was soon a new beginning. When the new channel banner was unveiled, Banz declared, "I am no longer alone. I will do better than before," announcing 'Banz Season 2.' He then stated, "I am a new Banz. I will go back to my roots and start again."
Meanwhile, Banz has established himself as Korea's pioneering mukbang YouTuber, becoming an icon of 'neat mukbang' and has received great love from his audience. In addition to YouTube content, he has also communicated with fans through various broadcasting activities.
