The Melon Music Awards returns to Seoul's Gocheok Dome after 3 years, further strengthening its status as the 'K-pop headquarters' with differentiated benefits.
On the 9th, Kakao Entertainment (co-CEOs Kwon Ki-soo and Jang Yoon-joong) announced that the '17th Melon Music Awards, MMA2025' will be held at the Seoul Gocheok Sky Dome on December 20 (Saturday).
The MMA, which announces artists' achievements over the past year to the world through objective data from the representative music platform Melon and votes from users and expert evaluations, is establishing itself as the largest music awards ceremony and festival in K-pop. Held online for the first time in 2005, it expanded to offline in 2009 and has solidified its status as an event eagerly anticipated by both fans and artists each year. In particular, it is famous as a 'K-pop headquarters' festival that music fans can easily access through continuous domestic hosting, which is rare for year-end awards ceremonies.
For this MMA2025, the criteria for awarding the main award 'TOP10' have changed from the previous 80% music streams + 20% voting to 60% music streams + 20% voting + 20% evaluation. As the way music is consumed on Melon has diversified, this aims to comprehensively analyze various elements such as popularity, influence, and completeness of the music loved by users over the past year, highlighting the artists who truly shined this year. Meanwhile, the 'Millions TOP10', awarded among albums that have entered Melon's hall of fame, will maintain the criteria of 80% music streams + 20% voting.
Additionally, the Melon Music Awards is changing the ticket booking rights previously provided to all members to be available only to paid members, as part of efforts to strengthen benefits for long-time customers of Melon. This change is expected to protect the rights of members by preventing illegal booking through unauthorized channels and to allow more customers to enjoy the best K-POP awards.
Ahead of MMA2025, Melon is preparing various pre-events where music fans can enjoy diverse pleasures. Through this, it plans to enhance anticipation for the main event by providing scarce rewards such as MMA tickets. Voting for TOP10 and for each institutional sector will also take place, with related notices and events to be gradually opened on Melon's official MMA2025 page later.
