"S Line" director and cast members shared their thoughts on winning an award at Cannes.
On the afternoon of the 7th, at CGV Yongsan I-Park Mall in Yongsan, Seoul, a media showcase and production presentation for the Wave original drama "S Line" took place. Actors Lee Su-hyuk, Lee Da-hee, Arin, Lee Eun-saem, and director Ahn Ju-young attended the event to discuss the project.
Based on the webtoon of the same name by writer Kkobabi, "S Line" is a fantasy thriller that reveals hidden truths and forbidden desires as a red thread, known as the consolidation, becomes visible among people who have established sexual relationships.
"S Line" was officially invited to the main competition section at the 8th Cannes International Series Festival last April and became the first domestic content to win the music award. In response, director Ahn Ju-young noted, "It goes without saying, but I was so happy. I was hoping for good news, but when the representative called, it felt unbelievable. When we actually went and screened it, it was packed with local people, and afterward, they cheered immensely. I was so moved, and it was an unforgettable experience as a director."
When asked about his feelings stepping on the Cannes pink carpet, Lee Su-hyuk said, "One night, I received a text. The director said he was going to Cannes. He congratulated me. I never imagined it, of course. They said Su-hyuk had to go too, and I was like, 'Did you edit it as a movie?' After hearing that we were going, I still couldn't believe it when I got on the plane. The flight was long. Even after arriving, meeting so many officials and other foreign actors and directors felt unreal. It feels like I wasn't prepared for such a large occasion. I definitely want to go, but after going, my affection for the project has grown, and I want to show it as soon as possible. My feelings have increased a lot."
He continued, "Now I feel that we were invited as a competing entry and was told to wait until the closing ceremony. I thought it could be possible to go. There are many talented and wonderful people. I stayed until the end and when we received the award, it was so exciting. It felt unrealistic. We were so excited, but then I wondered about the music award, what was the music director doing? When I called him, he was asleep. Of course, we have affection for the work and filmed hard, but I never imagined we'd receive an award at such a prestigious event, so the director was also very happy to hear the news. I still feel so good and nervous when I think about that time."
Arin said, "I was so nervous that I brought two Cheongshim Hwan (a traditional herbal remedy) all the way to the foreign country and took them all. The memory of standing on the pink carpet with the director, my seniors, and friends is the most prominent. I feel happy that we all went far together to share such a precious moment." Lee Eun-saem noted, "It was my first time watching a project I starred in with the audience, so I was excited and nervous. It's fascinating how broad the world is. There are various people. Even though we come from distant countries, when we laugh together at the parts we intended, it's amazing to realize that we connect with each other. It was a fascinating and enjoyable experience."
Meanwhile, "S Line" will premiere on the 11th.
