Let's Go Go Season 5 hit the viewers' hearts from the very first broadcast.
On the 5th, the highly anticipated first episode of Let's Go Go Season 5 aired, featuring legendary singer Song Chang-sik as the first guest.
On this day, he filled the broadcast with diverse attractions, from the story of how he started wearing his trademark Hanbok to proposals made to his wife just 15 days after they met, as well as the unexpected secrets behind the classic song 'Love' that was born at the Seodaemun Prison and a cozy live performance.
Continuing from the last season, MCs Ahn Jung-hwan and Hong Hyun-hee met the first guest, a leading figure in numerous hits like 'Whale Hunting', 'The Cigarette Shop Girl', and 'Why Call Me', the first-generation singer-songwriter Song Chang-sik, and headed to the studio.
The MCs were surprised to see the luxury shoes from brand B that G-Dragon also enjoys wearing in the shoe cabinet at the entrance of the studio. Hong Hyun-hee asked if he bought them himself, to which Song Chang-sik shyly replied that they were a gift. While looking at the closet filled with Hanbok, they asked about the reason he started wearing his trademark attire.
Song Chang-sik explained, "In 1975, I participated in an amateur competition in Hong Kong as the Korean representative and ended up at a post-competition gathering. Since it was my first time in Hong Kong, I bought an expensive suit, but when I stood in front of a mirror at the dance rehearsal room, I realized that while my outfit was the best, I looked the most shabby. As a singer, I felt embarrassed."
He continued, "The next day, I wore a traditional Hanbok, and I thought I looked the best in it. So, I thought, 'Suits aren't the clothes that suit us,' and after that, I started wearing Hanbok. Traditional Hanbok is uncomfortable, so I began making improvements to create a modified Hanbok," he revealed.
The MCs looked at family photos and asked, 'How did you meet your wife? Do you have one child?' Song Chang-sik started, "My wife is my high school classmate," and then shared, "I hadn't seen her since graduation, but I met her twin sister in the U.S. At that time, I asked her, 'What is your sister doing?' and she said she was running an antique shop. So, I went to visit that shop," revealing the start of their fateful meeting.
He added, "One day, my wife said, 'I have to go to a year-end party, so please help me find a partner,' but I couldn't find one. So, I apologized, and my wife seriously said, 'You can't go to that party without a partner, so you should come along.' We went together, and at that event, they told us to kiss, and my wife told me, 'Kiss me,'" indicating that their relationship blossomed under her lead.
Additionally, Song Chang-sik revealed the backstory of how they adopted two children. He stated, "The first child is our biological child, while the second and third were adopted." He explained, "My wife's twin sister in the U.S. wanted to adopt a Korean son, and before going, the child came to our house to get familiar with their mother's face. However, the laws suddenly changed, and they could not go for international adoption. So, we thought, 'Since we're bringing them home, we should raise them ourselves,'" sharing the story of adopting the second child.
He continued, "Later, his sister gave birth through artificial insemination but could no longer care for the child. At that time, while we were traveling in the U.S., we met the baby, and the child clung to my wife. So, we brought them back to Korea," he shared about adopting the third child. The MCs remarked, "You simply mentioned it, but it's not an easy thing to do (that's impressive)," and Song Chang-sik laughed and said, "Thanks to my sister-in-law, I've gotten married and have two additional children."
Furthermore, Song Chang-sik recounted an episode where he got a nosebleed after being hit by Jo Young-nam while he was active with the group C'est Si Bon. The MCs asked about the incident, which Jo Young-nam mentioned as his first assault incident when he appeared as a guest last season. Song Chang-sik said, "I don't remember exactly, but at that time, I had a habit of lying whenever I opened my mouth, so I was nicknamed 'Song Guru'. One day, when talking about houses, as a habit, I said, 'My house is really rich. I eat rice with chocolate,' and then a hand came flying at me," he laughed, recalling the humorous yet painful past.
After touring the studio, Song Chang-sik delivered a cozy live performance with his long-time partner Ham Chun-ho, a member of the group 'Poet and Village Head.' He showcased various songs live, from his beloved classic 'The Flute Player' to the sweet 'Night Snow', and also performed 'Whale Hunting', 'Why Call Me', 'The Cigarette Shop Girl', and 'Love', providing a musical treat for the listeners.
Song Chang-sik mentioned, "The original title of 'The Cigarette Shop Girl' was 'The Girl from the Dress Shirt Store.' However, it was too amusing to make it a song, so I changed it to 'The Cigarette Shop Girl.'" He elaborated, "'Love' was written while I was at the Seodaemun Prison. I was there for about 20 days for violating the local reserve forces law, and during that time, I wrote this song." He surprised everyone by stating, "In reality, 'Love' isn't a love story; it's more about meditation. I sang the lyrics to my wife who came to visit and asked her to finalize it, which is how that song came about."
Particularly, Song Chang-sik told the MCs, "These simple stories (meditation) originally lead to such complex stories (love)," leading the MCs to exclaim, "We thought you were an F (feelings type) in MBTI, but you turned out to be a T (thinking type)!" and they couldn't hide their shock, generating laughter.
Meanwhile, Let's Go Go Season 5 airs every Saturday at 8:20 p.m., featuring Ahn Jung-hwan and Hong Hyun-hee visiting special and meaningful places that best represent their friends, discussing life stories along the way.
