A woman in her 30s who posted hundreds of threatening and abusive messages aimed at actress Shin Se-kyung has been sentenced to 8 months in prison.
According to a report on the 4th, the Seoul Eastern District Court's Criminal Division 3 (Director General Lee Ho-dong) sentenced a woman surnamed A (35), who was indicted on charges of threats and abuse, to 8 months in prison on the 2nd. Previously, the prosecution had requested a 2-year prison term.
Ms. A was charged with writing over 450 posts threatening and insulting Shin Se-kyung on community boards related to Shin Se-kyung and dramas from June to August last year.
Additionally, the ruling stated that Ms. A threatened Shin Se-kyung by mentioning acid attacks and made derogatory comments about her sexuality, physical appearance, and family.
In response, the court noted that "Ms. A wrote numerous derogatory and harmful posts about the victim, a well-known celebrity, without any particular reason, causing the victim significant emotional distress, and the court has been petitioned for severe punishment."
However, the court explained the reasons for sentencing by stating, "Considering that Ms. A did not seem to have had any intention to actually inflict harm on the victim."
